Question about HP Officejet 5610 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Cancel printing doesn't work

Hi, the HP 5610 seems to have a problem when it comes to cancelling print jobs that stall halfway through printing.
I can't cancel them through the normal route (cancelling one or all in the print queue or pressing cancel on the printer keyboard).
It also doesn't work if I turn the printer off and on again. The job is still int he print queue even though it is no longer registered on the printer's information window.
I've looked for processes that should be ended (control+alt+del) but i'm not sure which one to end and don't want to cause any other problems.
This is very irritating! I don't want to reboot the computer as I don't want to lose something on a webpage that I want to print (confirmation of a flight booking)... But i can't print it because of this other job in the way.
Thanks!
Lesley

thanks, but I did cancel the job from the desk top (in addition to the printer buttons) but it just wouldn't disappear. I rebooted my computer in the end. I think it's a printer glitch because it doesn't happen with my nice cheap Canon i250.
    thanks for your help.

If you have tried a reboot then why don't you try a Soppler Refresh.
Click on Start> Run (and type Services.msc) Hot ok.
It should open services window up.
Then look for Print spooler> Double click on it> Under General amke sure startup type is selected as Automatic> Then down you shoul see a tab which says stop> Click Stop (Now a small windows popps up and closes) You will see Start Highlighted> Click start and stop will be higlighted> if applicable click on apply or ok and close all the windows and restart the computer.
Then go to Start> Control panel> Printers and faxes> and check to see if the icon say 0Ready> if yes right click on the icon and left lick on Properties and then in the bottom you will see a tab which says print test page> click and see if it prints a test page.
Then try printing any document.

Good Luck

I would like to cancel a print job without losing all of my memory card picture selections. Seems rather silly to lose all your selections if something goes awry with your printer output.

If you are using Windows, you can cancel a print job by opening your Start menu (usually the bottom left corner of your screen) then open Devices and Printers or Printers and Faxes depending on your version of Windows.

Double left-click the name of your printer
Right-click the name of the print job you want to cancel and select cancel print job or right-click a blank part of the printer box and select cancel all print jobs.

Cancelled a job and it stays in queue

Cancel all the documents in the print queue, (just do it whether they are actually deleted or not), press "cancel" on button the printer and restart your system and also the printer. If possible, please leave the printer switched off for few minutes and don't forget to use the "Power" button to turn if off or on. This will help your printer to restart new print job, all the jobs on the print queue will be deleted/cleared. Good luck, Thanks for using FixYa.

It takes unduly long time to cancel a print-command on any printer, when we work on Windows. What is the surest way to kill a printing command.

Open "Printers and Faxes" from the Start Menu. Open the print queue for your printer by double-clicking on your printer's icon. There will be a list of all the current print jobs. There you can right-click on a job and select Cancel, Restart, etc. Cancel will remove it from the list.

If you are not on the computer that is connected to the printer, you might not have permission to change the queue. Then you should go to the computer that is actually connected, and use this procedure there.
