My sony did almost the exact same thing. I removed the bulb & cleaned all the dust out of the cooling ducts & the screen on the bulb was full of dust. That bought me about a month, then I replaced the bulb & haven't had a problem since(over a year ago). Just make sure you NEVER touch the glass of the new bulb with your hands, oil on your skin will greatly shorten the bulb life! I found a bulb at a local electronics store for under $200.00... don"t forget to clean dust from cooling ducts,& make sure cooling fan is working, bulb gets extremely hot!
The fan is shorted and might be dead. The projection bulb been in the tv and used for the last 3 years? The projection bulb, life span are over.Require a new projection bulb.

Hi,Osram lamps average around 3000-4000 hrs.Normally 1 -1 1/2 yr.I do think the lamp went out.The ballast is a possibility, when it's going bad it will make clicking noises or attempts to light the bulb.I recommend to get the Original Philips lamp for they average 6000-8000 hrs 3-4 yrs.
hey I have a zenith projection tv that is only 3 years old and i have already replaced the stupid bulb 3 times at 450.00 a pop. No one told me at the time that i bought this tv at best buy that this bulb would have to be replaced this often. and the bad thing is i never watch this damn thing anymore but i paid 2200.00 for a tv that i cannot afford to watch and zenith will not help me at all with this problem
Its problem of bulb that got weak in result and causing TV shut down.
Replace bulb in TV and I would recommend to buy Sony original bulb for TV safety.
When the senior service tech changed our bulb, I watched very carefully, and he said there is an electrical contact towards the rear of where the bulb goes in that bends very easily and that care is required not to damage or bend that connector. His assistant tech then bent the thing, and the senior tech had to straighten it out properly. All the while, he talked about how delicate this connector is. Hope this is helpful to you. It sounds like what he was talking about.
