My harddrive could not boot up and the Recovery disk displayed "Wrong Machine" When I called Toshiba support, they said that this is a DMI issue. Since it is out of warranty, I need to pay to get it fix.
Apparently, this DMI issue is about licensing with microsoft in the detection of the correct boot sequence. This is according to the support guys from Toshiba
Question: If I replace the hard drive, will this resolve the DMI issue ?
-   I have a Toshiba Satellite A135, and I am experiencing the same problem. I installed a new hard drive after the old hard drive seemed to have crashed, and proceeded to 'try' to load the Recovery Disc, and the same issue happened. Something about error that it wasn't for the right machine.
So, so far - I only two options.
#1 - Toshiba's web site.
#2 - Driver Dectective-   ornclo
No, the DMI issue will remain. It has to do with the recovery operating system being linked to the machine's serial number. Purchase an operating system disc and that will take care of it. The only catch is that you will need to install some drivers for your machine after the install. All the drivers can be found at Toshiba's support site. Keep in mind that the hard drive not booting may be a hard drive failure in which the drive may need replaced, but just a new hard drive will not solve the DMI issue.
