Question about Toshiba Satellite A25-S307 Notebook

Hard drive and DMI issue

My harddrive could not boot up and the Recovery disk displayed "Wrong Machine" When I called Toshiba support, they said that this is a DMI issue.
Since it is out of warranty, I need to pay to get it fix.

Apparently, this DMI issue is about licensing with microsoft in the detection of the correct boot sequence. This is according to the support guys from Toshiba

Question: If I replace the hard drive, will this resolve the DMI issue ?

    I have a Toshiba Satellite A135, and I am experiencing the same problem. I installed a new hard drive after the old hard drive seemed to have crashed, and proceeded to 'try' to load the Recovery Disc, and the same issue happened. Something about error that it wasn't for the right machine.



    So, so far - I only two options.

    #1 - Toshiba's web site.

    #2 - Driver Dectective

No, the DMI issue will remain. It has to do with the recovery operating system being linked to the machine's serial number. Purchase an operating system disc and that will take care of it. The only catch is that you will need to install some drivers for your machine after the install. All the drivers can be found at Toshiba's support site. Keep in mind that the hard drive not booting may be a hard drive failure in which the drive may need replaced, but just a new hard drive will not solve the DMI issue.

Turn off the computer Henry then turn it back on and hold down the alt key and tap F10 and make sure you remove any disks from the CD drive.
It would appear that the hard drive is having boot sector issues.

You need to make a bootable CD, put theToshiba DMI utility on the bootable CD; Boot from that CD, then run DMI utility to set the machine to match the designation on your recovery disks. That'll do it.

I have a a45-s130 toshiba laptop computer....My system recovery rom won't work...I know that the rom is the correct one because it was sent by toshiba...Everytime I start the computer with it in the rom...


This happens quite a bit. The recovery CD is looking for a machine ID from your laptop and didn't find the correct one. You need to download Toshiba's DMI utility (put it on a CD and make it bootable), boot from it, then run DMI Utility and tell your machine it is an A45 series. That'll do it.

This is a known error. You should call toshiba and have them send new disks.... or you can go to a certified Toshiba repair shop and they will change the dmi.

Is you new hard drive lager than you old on and was the disk drive a factory replacement cause with those disks if you even change just that they will not work

Reinstallation with recovery disk


I've had myself almost same problem in my 5200-801, but with reading DVD's.
It was allready the second dvd/cd drive replaced by Toshiba.
Then I replaced the DVD/CD drive myself because I ran out of guarantee, with one bought from the internet and much cheaper than the original one. A multi drive which even do the lightscribe job and that one works very well.
