Region code hack posted by [PaNcHo_LoPeZ], December 12 2006:
1.- Push the "Power" button to turn on the Player and wait that it indicates no disc.
2.- Press "Setup" button on the Remote control, in the screen of the television set it will appear the menu of the DVD
3.- Press the sequence of the numerical 1 3 6 9 in your remote control
4.- Press three times the left button of the cursor ◄
5.- Press one time the right button of the cursor ►
EXAMPLE STEPS 1-4
press 1369◄ ◄ ◄ ►
A hidden menu will appear in setup menu
6.- Press the "down" button ▼ to move to menu version
7.- Press the "select" button, then it will appear the menu of code region.
8.- Press the "right" button ►, the option of region code will change of color. Press the down button ▼ until region code change to zero "0"
9.- Press the SETUP button to leave the menu. Your DVD player is multi-region now.


(Note: This hack is know to works also in the MDV501 PH6906, PH-6907, PH6910, PH6912, PH839 and PH9400).

DVD players usually are locked to a Region code and cannot play DVDs from other regions unless the DVD player has its firmware changed to Region Free.

keep in mind you can only change the region 5 times and cannot change it anymore after that (regarless to windows reinstallation , its a hardware thing) you might wanna consider purchasing "dvd region free" or use a 3rd party region free firmware to bypass that

With the tray open,

key in 9,9,9,9,0

and the player is region free.

The display shows Region: 0

Using 1, 2 etc instead of 0 in the above sequence sets it to region 1, 2 etc

I don't know if you still need this fix, but all you need to do is just change the country from USA to China under the setup menu.  Go to preference menu and then region.  There you will see a list of countries to change it to.  I tried it with Taiwan first but that failed but when I set the region to China I was able to play PAL DVDs like a champ.  The player didn't recognise it until the change, but there was no problem with playback afterward.
