I have a Sony KV-27S26 27 the image start compressing horizontal and eventually move up and disappear. Sometimes, the image is recovered by a small kick with the hand to disapear few second later. So, I guess that it is something loosen but I do not really what it is. Can someone help on this? Thank you. Andres

There are potentially dangerous high voltages present inside the set even when unplugged, so caution is required. That being said, if you can solder, you may be able to resolve this. If the picture returns with movement, it is possible that the problem is poor solder connections. Try removing the back and sliding out the main board. Resolder any connections that appear grasiny or have rings. That may resolve the problem.
sounds like the filament of the picture tube is losing voltage. normally this would be caused by a bad/broken/cracked solder connection. If this is the problem, it may not be too dificult to fix if you have the soldering skills and know what to look for.
It is likely the HOT (horizontal output transistor) and a couple of associated capacitors. common failure. the HOT is around 8.00 and some for the caps. but almost no tv person works for less than 100. and provides a warranty. so you can expect 150. at least for a bill.
