Need a sharper scan. What's the difference between resolution (DPI) and compression? Need to send a 9-page document with color pix and B&W copy that's clear but doesn't take 20 minutes to download. Can you help me a little? (I've got a windows PC and an Epson CX6000.)

The dpi (dots per inch) is how detailed the scanner makes the image, higher dpi equals more pixels to describe the image. Compression is a method (there are many kinds) to decrease the graphic file size to a more manageable size for power points, emails etc. I would suggest scanning at a high DPI until you are happy with the image and then try to save it as a compressed jpeg. It would be better to separate the text from the images but I'm not sure of your layout. You can usually view the image in a graphic viewer and save or export with options to decrease the file size.

SOURCE: I accidently uninstalled Lexmark x422

Hello, Cnet is a safe website to download drivers from. If you cannot find the driver from Lexmark's website, you can download it from Cnet. Download.com is also part of cnet and that is safe as well.

SOURCE: When I scan with my

The scan unit in your All-In-One is a CCD model: for a paper to be copied or scanned the A-I-O must detect what's on it; this is done by a sensor similar to one from a photo camera that basically takes a very detailed picture; for the sensor to work a very special light must be used so a set of special tubes are used to generate the light.
In your case one of these tubes is failing and the light it generates is way off than the shade it should give - the end result is that the colors from the image that results after the scan are off. Unfortunately this is unfixable - the only thing that would fix it would be to replace the entire lighting unit, but it's not sold as a replacement part by Dell.
So your scan unit from the A-I-O is effectively dead - but you can still use it as a simple printer, that part is functioning perfectly. If you really need the scan part then your only 2 options are:
1 - to find another Dell 962 with a defective printer side and cannibalize its scanning unit
or
2 - to buy a new A-I-O.

I have used last 4 year canon 2900B printer. How to set 300 dpi printing resoluation

Canon PIXMA Manuals MG2900 series Resolution
Resolution The data in the image you have scanned is a collection of dots carrying information about brightness and color. The density of these dots is called "resolution", and resolution will determine the amount of detail your image contains. The unit of resolution is dots per inch (dpi). Dpi is the number of dots per inch (2.5 cm). The higher the resolution (value), the more detail in your image; the lower the resolution (value), the less detail.

How to Set the Resolution You can set the resolution in Resolution on the (Scanning from a Computer) tab of the Settings dialog.
Appropriate Resolution Settings Set the resolution according to the use of the scanned image.
Item Type Use Color Mode Appropriate Resolution Color photo Copying
(Printing) Color 300 dpi Creating a postcard Color 300 dpi Saving to a computer Color 300 dpi Using on a website or attaching to e-mail Color 150 dpi Black and white photo Saving to a computer Grayscale 300 dpi Using on a website or attaching to e-mail Grayscale 150 dpi Text document (document or magazine) Copying Color, Grayscale, or Black and White 300 dpi Attaching to e-mail Color, Grayscale, or Black and White 150 dpi Scanning text using OCR Color or Grayscale 300 dpi Important
  • If you double the resolution, the data size of the scanned image quadruples. If the file is too large, the processing speed will slow down significantly, and you will experience inconvenience such as lack of memory. Set the minimum required resolution according to the use of the image.
Note
  • When you will be printing the scanned image by enlarging it, scan by setting a higher resolution than the recommended one above.

Text being scanned does not produce a clear print to our cannon ip18oo printer

alot of the time if you scan something it will streach the image because of the scanner resolution. check you setting on the printer. you might need to change the settings to stop it from doing that to make he image more clear. if that doesn't work than also some printers are just like that when you scan something. it will also make one page turn into two pages. that may just be the way the printer is.

How to scan from machine to PC

  • 1. Turn on your all-in-one printer and computer. Check the connections between the two machines.

  • 2. Lift the printer's document lid. Examine the scanning surface and the underside of the lid for dust and fingerprints.

  • 3. Put the document you wish to scan face-down on the glass. Use the alignment markers to help you square up the object. These are usually found on the left-hand edge of the scanning area.

  • 4.Close the printer's document lid slowly so the document does not shift position.

  • 5. Select a scan resolution. The higher the dpi (dots per inch) count, the sharper and more detailed the image.

  • 6. Push the scan button. You may have to do this on the printer itself or on your computer.

  • 7. Check the preview of your scan on your computer. Depending on your all-in-one printer and software, you may have to prompt your computer to display the preview for you.

  • 8. Edit the image as it appears on your computer if you want to make changes. Your scanning software might let you enlarge, resize or otherwise manipulate the final product.

  • 9. Accept the scan and save. Return the original document to a safe location.

    1. Press the button.

    2. Press the button two times.

I need to scan single page documents at 70kb on my HP 5500 all in one. I have tried changing all the settings that I can find and all my documents scan at about 200kb in pdf format.

Resolution and color depth are the 2 main factors that determine the size.
Scan in black & white, and reduce the resolution to 150 dpi, that should give you very small PDFs.

I scan text pages at 30kb with my HP 5610 in PDF.
