Re: !995 GE TV Model # 27GT615
I don't recall the exact incantation, but one of the menus will allow you to change the TV from Air channels to cable. You are currently in the antenna mode. Only channels up to 12 will be even close to the cable ones. On a set of that vintage, there may even be a slide switch on the front of the set.

You probably have to find your original remote to the set and go through setup in your menu. On most sets, there will be a menu item which will allow you to switch from Cable mode to Air mode. If you have no Cable connected, then you must set tuner in Air mode.
If you are using an external device to run on channel three, then try this:
Make sure device (rather it's a vcr or game console), is hooked up to your Antenna Input connector. Also, some of these devices will have a small hidden switch on back that says 3 and 4. Move the switch to 3 position. Turn on device. Go into TV menu and do a Channel scan. This should auto program any device hooked up to the TV antenna input jack to channel three.
Keep in mind that you may not receive anything by Feburary of this year without an HD converter box to tune in channels with and outdoor antenna.
Please post the model number of your TV. You have to get to the menu to reprogram the TV channels for cable vs on air. Sometimes pushing two buttons at the same time on the TV itself will get you into the menu mode. If you use Google and search for your modeel number and "manual" you might get some help there.
There has to be a signal on one channel at least below 50. connect a DVD player to the TV and try programming. You are supposed to have a signal on cahnel 3 or 4.i hope this helps you. thats all I can think about now.
Most tv's have an Antenna mode and a cable mode. If you have cable tv service, the cable mode must be selected in order to receive channels higher than 23. Then you must auto program the channels thru the menu screen on the tv to receive the channels above 23. If you have a house antenna or rabbit ears, its hit or miss on receiving all VHF and UHV channels.
Is there a way to unlock the satellite setting?
Will we have to sign up for satellite for a month or so, so that we can unlock it?
I do not know about your place I stay in INDIA & here unless you subscribe you can not see cable channels.
Or are we just out of luck on this?
I'm not sure, but, if you use the channel down button on the television, the set may go to the video inputs.
If not a local retailer should have an inexpensive universal remote that would work on this set and have an input or tv/video button.
If you use a cable box, the remote can be programed also.
If you need more help, reply to this post and I can come up with more solutions when I get to my shop next week.
