I bought a printer off my nephew and the cd to download it in to my computer is missing. is there anyway i can get this printer to work or will i need to purchace a new one.

Maybe the printer driver you are using is not compatible with the windows version you have on your system. I would go to the HP web site and see if there is a driver for your printer and check the connection to your laptop
Click on Software & Driver Downloads. Then you need to select an operating system. When you do a list of available software will be given. In most of these there is a link to order a new CD if you desire.
You can also download the software from this page and install the printer without a CD. If you would like to do that, just Comment back and I'll try to lead yu through it.
Run system restore and restore windows to a previous state, if this does not work, then try to reload the driver, you can actually find the driver on the hp website

You may have to install or update drivers Most of the
drivers/software I get are from a web site driverguide.com you need to fill out
a free registration then search for the driver you need download it in a format
you can use install it and then most times reboot the computer
