I tried this but it did not work and there is no way to get to the optics to clean them. Thanks anyway.

Is the dvds s the right right speed, format that your recorder supports and its finalized ? In order to use the disks on other players the disk must be finalized,
not all DVD players will play DVD-R. Look in the users manual to see what formats yours will play. some will play -R but not +R and others may play +R but not -R). If that's the problem, double check whether it can have its firmware upgraded (go figure) and then play DVD+-R discs. You could also try using DVD+R or DVD+RW disks to see if that makes a difference.

This sounds as though the optical eye on the disc reader has failed. You can try cleaning it, but most likely it will need replaced.

Try a music CD. Also, open up the unit and clean the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. If the CDs play but DVDs do not even after the clening, the optics are failing and need to be replaced.

Problem with Mintek MDP-1810 Portable DVD Player that will play movie DVDs but not computer burned video DVD

The problem I think is with the burner on your pc. Try re burning on another program like Nero and pay attention to the options. It will ask you if you wish to play disc in all types of players.

Will play discs burned from hdd but not commercial movie type dvd

The solution is simple.I rang LG service (so called - LOL)
Asked for a fix or reset method. (Which can be done but they won't tell novices how)
Got no joy, so now I will bin it,and spend the rest of my days telling people to avoid LG.
After all the posts I have since read about the same problem on various LG models,it is obvious their product sucks, they know it does, but won't accept the responsibility.
If I stop 4 people buying their ****,that's at least $1000 they miss out on.
If the process snowballs,how much then$$ ?
It would cost me $120 just to get it to and pick it up from the repair place.
Plus parts and labour added.
Before buying an LG DVD recorder go online and check out how many dissatisfied customers there are. In short, DO NOT BUY !!

After finalizing DVD will not play on other DVD players etc

You need to choose the correct option in your software before you burn a dvd if you want it to play on other dvds. Before you choose 'burn' look at the options on the page, it generally gives you two options, one option to burn to play back on your computer only and one option to play back on most dvds. Have a look around on the screen when you burn the disks

Cannot Play Commercially Produced DVDs (Panasonic DMR-ES40V)

Dear FixYa Team,

Thanks for your inquiry re my problem.

Since I posted, I THINK I may have solved my problem. I unplugged the unit for an hour or so, plugged it in again, and it DID play a "commercial" DVD that I had tried earlier. I don't know if this is a permanent solution -- we'll see. If not, I'll take the next step in seeking some help.

Thanks again.

Player freezes at same time on almost every disk, and recorder programs won't play on anything else.

The last problem is probably because you have not ?finalized? the DVD yet. Basically what that does is modify how the data is stored on the DVD so that a normal DVD player can read it. It also prevents you from modifying or recording to the disk any more so make sure you?re done before performing this. The part about the freezing is more complex, are these commercially recorded DVDs or something someone else recorded?

My dvd always shows "system error" and won't play commercial copyright dvds, only recorded ones.

I had the same problem with my recorder except that it wouldnt play any discs at all.. I finally unplugged the recorder and left it unplugged for 16 hours. Now it is fine. I am not getting any error messages.
