I have the same issue on Comcast with their Motorola SB4200 Surfboard cable modem.

I can get into the router setup both wirelessly and through NIC, and on the "Status" page it says "Disconnected" under the "Internet" column.

Modem is definitely working as evidenced by direct RJ45 connection/blazing speed.

Where in the setup utility does one get the router "...configured properly for internet connection..."?

It means that the router is not yet configured properly for internet connection. Who is your internet service provider and what is the model or brand of your modem?

Are you trying to set up router ?
You can set up your router manually, without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

Another application is controlling the wireless adapter

I believe you are using WINDOWS XP.
In case of windows XP, there might be 2 different wireless utilities can control your wireless adapter.
First utility is the manufacturer's utility. If you have Dell wireless adapter then you can use Dell utility to connect to the network.
Another utility is Window's utility. You are getting the error message in this utility because your computer is using another utility.
To use window's utility you will need to start the " wireless zero configuration ".

Linksys wrt54g SRX200. I can connect to my router

It appears the connection between the Linksys and the modem is not working.
Try a different LAN cable.
Check the LAN cable from the modem to the Linksys, it should be connected to the WAN/Internet port on the Linksys.

My LinkSys Wireless-G SRX200 randomly reboot,

Check if directly connecting the computer to the modem works. If it does not try to reset the router and flashing the firmware. If you have a copy of the original firmware you may use that. If it does not work you may have a bad router.
