Electrical odor

Have an Advantium Oven installed in 2003.

It heats fine and the table turns. But an odor simular to an eletrical wire overheating starts to come out of the vent after it runs a few seconds and seems to get stronger the longer it runs.

The only ideas I have is that it could be the fan motor or turntable motor, but I have no experience with this. Your opinion would be appreciated.

Thank You.

An on-site visit from a tech usually runs about $75 or so, so bear that in mind before you call.

I understand most folks would rather check into a bit before they call for service..

I would suspect the high voltage transformer, but it may be a fan-related component such as the fan, or a triac on the circuit board.

Did you try running the hood / vent / exhaust fan and nothing else?

Also, try microwave cooking for a minute or two on the lowest power setting to see if that varies the amount of odor you get compared to full power.

That can help narrow it down between the high voltage parts and fan, etc.

That classic electrical smell is never a good sign. Call up Sears and have them come out to take a look at it, if it's not under warrenty it shouldn't cost to much to diagnose it.
