First off, make sure that your motherboard can handle the RAM that you are trying to install. You can go to www.crucial.com and it will scan your system and tell you exactly what RAM you can install. It is not hard to install RAM. You have to seat it correctly though. You need to apply some pressure when you install it, without ramming it in there. (No pun intended!) It should be recognized when you boot back up. Note that you should install RAM in pairs - making sure that each stick is the same speed. Let me know if you need more help.

take out the old one - the cap protecting it is on the bottom, held with one screw - and insert the new one: lift and pull then press and lower it.

System has got 512 DDR 400. Can I increase the ram capacity, as the system is working very slow. Upto what capacity the ram can be increased. Ravi

Depends which version of their board you have, I will list them here so you can just check your board and reference the right one:

Intel Desktop Board D865GLC - 4GB maximum Ram
Intel Desktop Board D865GSA - 2GB maximum Ram
Intel Desktop Board D865GLCLK - 4GB maximum Ram

If you only have 512MB Ram at this point then you definately will see huge performance increases if you take it up to at least 2GB and if you can take it to 4GB (especially since these boards only have onboard video instead of graphics card)

Upgrading memory from 512mb to 2gb but the memory i have seen says 800MHz yet i have seen somewhere on my computer 533MHz is this something else?also i can go to 4gb would this be to big a step and a waste...

upgrading to 2GB will have a significant increase in speed, the jump from 2GB to 4 GB will be faster but the additional speed increase will be less than the 512 to 2 GB jump. In my book, get as much RAM as you can afford, for go with 4 GB. THe 533 Front side bus is set by the processor installed on the MB, using 800 Mhz RAM will have no ill effect as it is backwards compatible to 533

Hp Compaq dx2200 MT RAM Problems

Firstly, you have to know that you can upgrade RAM as Double or Half of your pre-installed RAM. For example, like your pre-installed RAM is 256 MB, you can only upgrade RAM of capacity 128 MB or 512 MB. Secondly, check your previous installed RAM's speed that is shown in Ghz. You can only upgrade RAM to its similar speed, otherwise you get slow performance of PC.

Hi! Can I add yet more RAM to my PC?

Whether you will get an increase in speed or not depends on which operating system you are using and what applications you are running. If you are just surfing the web and running spreadsheet or word processing - I doubt you would see much difference. If you go to www.crucial.com and let it scan your system - it will tell you what upgrade options you have.

My1 gb ram didn't make any change even in games in my pc even those games which used to run at a particular speed earlier before the added ram are running just like thet speed even after adding 1gb more...

Ok, let's explain this. RAM does not necessarily make your pc faster.
Your pc can be faster if you upgrade your CPU or graphic card(only graphic application will make you notice the increased speed in graphics).
RAM can be a bottleneck for application that need a lot of memory like photoshop when working on multiple very high resolution images or 3D cad when working on large assemblies, or VMWare.
Vista manages the RAM in such a way that you might notice a slight performance increase and less disk usage during standard desktop activities, but XP doesn't.
if you don't use very many applcations at a time and/or you don't use memory consuming applications, the added RAM is not used at all and your computer won't be any faster than it used to be.
Video memory is basically the same. you will notice a difference in performance from a large video memory(512MB-1GB-2GB) only if you game at high resolution like 1080p or higher, usually supported only by large monitors like 20" or larger.

Its good idea to upgrade the RAM but not the solution, problem is probably with OS and registry. Please clean any virus, registry using cCleaner and update OS to have( try XP with SP2), Then try.

You need paired memory - and if you are using two pairs, they must be the same speed (there is a big difference between 33Mhz and 677Mhz)
