A 99 is most likely fuel injected, so the fuel pump is inside the gas tank. The gasket for this is a large O-ring in the top center of the tank and is unlikely to leak. Thus your leak is most likely in the line, put it up on a lift at a muffler or oil change place and look underneath for the wet spot which stinks of gas, that will lead you to the leaking spot. Gas tanks themselves can leak due to corrosion, this can be where road debris collects on top, and if you have a skid plate under the tank corrosion can build up between the plate and the tank eventually eating a hole in the tank.

Good Luck

When filling up the gas tank of my 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix SE, it releabsed a few cups of gasoline from somewhere at the bottom of the car. I'm not sure why??? It hasn't leaked since.

Both the fuel pump and gas gage sending units are located inside the tank. They are accessed by a plate and gasket on top of the fuel tank.
If the gasket leaks or the hoses leading to the vent leak, your condition would happen. Unfortunately to confirm the tank would have to be dropped(removed) which requires all the fuel to be removed first. Not a pleasant nor easy task.

How to change the fuel pump

Basicaly your fuel pump located inside of gas tank, you have to lift and secure the vehicle high enough to lose and drop the gas tank!!
Before decided to do this make sure gas tank is near empty lift&secure the vehicle visual check around the gas tank make sure all fuel and evap lines are disconnected nothing hold the gas tank except holder brackets, use under jack and safely secure gas tank( do not use direct jack to gas tank use wooden piece to dont damage it)
use right size socket and wrench lose braket holdet nuts and bolts safely drop the tank and place on safe work place (no smokes or sparks)
locate to fuel pump and remove the locker pin and pull out fuel pump slowy your fuel pump should sale complete assembly so replace pump unit and be carefully complete wire connections (TIPS,,With new fuel pump make sure replace the sealing gasket with correct new one or you gonna have serivce engine light for small evap leak so make it right at first time!!))
reinstall eveything the way you removed it !!
good luck and make sure you gonna have helper around to drop the tank<

Didn't pass smog due to fuel leak? It passed the emission part of the smog test, however failed because of gas vapors leaking from the fuel system. What should I check first to locate the leak?

Fuel tankes have only one large acess on the top i sugest checkin the rubber gasket for cracks or perishing also check along the fuel lines for damp spots use your nose to locat the strongest area of gas then go from there hope this helps:)

My 1994 chevy s-10 is acting like its out of gas but it has more than half tank. it just loses pressure all of a sudden.what can i do?

You can try by changing the fuel filter it might be clogged up and the engine is starving of fuel, this is the the easiest and cheapest option to rule out first
Hope this helps

I have a fuel smell in cab on start ups only.No fuel leaks visible and no computer codes.Gas cap is tight.brand new spark plugs

If there is fuel smell in the morning there is a possibility that there is a minute leak in the gaskets or the fuel line pipes or in the gas tank that makes the volatile fuel gas into the chamber.
It will be good to look from the tank to the fuel pump, the fuel filter and to the distribution for any gas leak which might need a tightening or a change of gasket.
Your smelling senses is the right tool to probe.

Inside the cabin strong gas smell after fill up for approx 50 miles. 2003 Honda Odyssey 85k miles.

do you have the same fuel economy as before or does you gas last less miles than before. if you can smell gas whether the car is running or NOT that means you have a leak in your fuel system if it was not a leak, you would not smell it when not running . first thing is check under vehicle after overnight parking and see if there is fuel on the ground if there is , this will give you a starting point where to look for gas leak. Plugged, dirty or poorly connected fuel injector; Leaking fuel filter or fuel filter connections; Punctured or damaged fuel tank; Loose or poorly connected fuel pump; Gas in gas can in trunk.

Would the fuel pump be located in the tank and therefore mean taking the tank off? and do u think is should help with the low power (missing)?

If the car is running fine but just has a lack of power it could verywell be something else. The pump by the way since somewhere in the 80's has been put inside the gas tank. The rule of thumb is that should it leak it will leak in the tank and not out in the street. Some cars have a hatch in the back or under the rear seats where you can access the fuel pump. Most cars however you have to remove the tank. Have the fuel pressure checked as well as change the fuel filter before replacing the pump.
