Derkfarm - It may simply be a case of the humidity extraction level being set to high and/or the air intake filter needs to be removed and cleaned.

Solution: Lower the humidity extraction level to 32 - 35% and clean the air filter.

If the unit is in a basement, the ambient air temperature at floor level is colder than at chest level. Dehumidifiers don't work well at temperatures between 40 - 60 degrees F.

Solution: Set the unit up off the floor on a sturdy table, cabinet, counter top, etc. It must be sturdy enough to handle the weight of the unit, plus a full tank of water and the vibration, while in operation.

Any or all the simple solutions above may solve the problem. But, we won't know, until you try them.

Please let me know if it helped or didn't solve the problem. Thanks.

Fan always runs, speed doesnt change (low/high), setting humidity level doesnt impact...is this a control board or circuit board issue?

Verify the humidity reading with another device. Perhaps the humidity sensor is dirty or bad.

Another possibility is the switching device that runs the compressor and fan is shorted. If it's a mechanical relay, the contacts may have welded together, or if it's a solid-state relay, it's got a punch-through or meltdown in a device junction. My guess is it's a mechanical relay since you mention it used to click on and off and now you don't hear that. The relay may be on the control board, or it may be mounted separately - I don't have a photo or diagram of the inside of your model available.

Does the Fan on a Haier HD456E always run,

I believe the fan is designed to run all the time, and no, it costs very little to run an 18w fan. You can use a timed socket, or switch it on and off when needed. I don't believe the Haier has specific switching times.

I have a DDR7009EE and the fan runs continuously even when the humidity in the room is below the setting on the machine. Shouldn't the fan stop when the desired humidity is reached?

Lyle, your particular model is designed for the fan to function constantly. However, the fan running doesn't mean the compressor is always running. The reason the unit was designed this way, is for the air to be continually moving, and when the humidity sensor picks up a rise in the humidity level (above where you have it set) the compressor will turn ON and extract that humidity.

Your unit is working as it should. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Compressor stops at proper humidity % but the fan keeps running.

Dehumidifiers are built that way. They keep moving air so it is able to keep any change of conditions moving around the room. On a dehumidifier, it the fan stops, your unit will short cycle becasue water will naturally evaporate from the water tank and it would turn on, then off, then on then off. The way it runs now is fine. Running the fan 24 hours on your dehumidifier cost nickels a day. Just let run.

My Danby Dehumidifier has stopped drawing water even though the fan kicks in. Do you have any suggestions? The fan has been cleaned and the humidity setting is 35.

There can be many reasons why a dehumidifier will not work or collect water.

Here is a tip that I wrote to help people to figure out what is going wrong with their dehumidifier

Unit has stopped collecting water. Fan & Heater working ok. Been through problem page.None of those. Can you help please?

When it is below freezing outside, humidity drops inside.

Does it need to be running? A digital humidity sensor from Radio Shack is cheap and may tell you the humidity is OK - 50% or less.

My dehumidifier is frozen solid

Unplug it ... let it defrost.

Set it to a higher % humidity and make sure the fan is on its fastest speed. If you can set it not run continually (a selection option), do that. Also, set a small fan close by to move more air around the machine. If you have the option, put a hose on the collection device to drain to a sewer.

As your space starts to dry out, set the humidity setting to a lower number. This may take a week or more.

I believe perfect humidity is slightly above 50% - no need to try to get to 40% except in unusual circumstances. If that is the case, get a second device. Or, if your space is large, you may want to add a second device.

I hope this info helps you and your problem is solved.

DH30 Dehumidifier Compressor Does not Operate

I just picked one up at a tag sale, seller said it worked sometimes. Seems to have the same problem as yours. I took the time to tweak all of the connections and then re-soldered the control board with no luck. I finally disconnected the humidity control and it worked fine. By disconnecting the humidity control the unit defaults to it's highest setting and you have to unplug the unit to turn it off. Conclusion so far is that the humidity control rheostat is bad.
Note: Now while running the fan runs continuously and the compressor cycles on and off every 10 to 15 minutes. This may to be normal since the unit appears to be doing its job and I'm not sure how it is supposed to run since a purchased it broken.

Dandy dehumidifier

attempt to feel the metal fins on the back of the unit. If they do not feel cool, then unit is either out of freon or compressor has failed or compressor is not running. If fins are cool, then insufficient air flow through unit -check fan- or room has very low humidity and humidistat is defective; not shutting down compressor.
