Question about Amana Dryers

1 Answer

I suspect the belt is worn out. The drum won't rotate. Is it worth the service call to replace a belt on a 9-year-old AMANA DRYER? THANK YOU.

What's your problem?Squealing Speed Queen dryer

The drum of the dryer has a belt that turns the drum while in operation. These belts are not hard to replace and if your old belt is still attached you can visually see how it is positioned on the drum. However, there are also at least three rollers that carry the drum allowing it to rotate as it is being turned by the belt. These rollers are also not that expensive and are relatively easy to replace. Since the machine is 20 years old you may experience some problems finding the parts (maybe not)> You can check with the company via the internet and find out. Just give them the model number and a description of the part. The pulley that is attached to the shaft of the motor that drives the belt that turns the drum could also be worn out. Replacing the pulley on a machine that old can be trying but not impossible. If you have a technician check out and make repairs on these potential problems it probably cost well over $180 but if you have any mechanical ability you can probably do the job yourself if you can locate the parts. Just make sure the machine is unplugged from an electrical source before removing the back and the rest is just work.

Samsung dryer DV4015J turns on and motor sounds like its working but the drum does NOT turn so clothes do not dry, they just sit in dryer container?

If this is the older type, then the dryer drum is rotated by a thin loop belt that goes around the drum and then a pulley on the motor. I had to replace my 20 year old dryer belt on a Whirlpool a couple years ago. The front comes off and the belt slips over the drum. The front of the Whirlpool is held on by friction clips that have to be pried off with a flat blade. I suspect that you can do the same. look on the internet for a diagram of your dryer or you may have one in the manual that came with the machine.

Worn dryer belt tensioner

Good day,
For the cost, it isn't worth not changing. If it's down, remove the drum and check the rear wheels as well.
P.S. If you remove the drum, after re-installing make sure the felt on the back of the drum doesn't double over for you. If it does, assemble then take a small thin screw driver and as you rotate the drum, roll it back in place.

Dryer louder than used to be, does it need service?

The belt may be worn and squealing because it is slipping.  When it warms up it stops slipping.  It will have to be replaced soon. A worn bearing on a support wheel could also cause intermittent noise.

My Amana dryer squeals even with just one or two pieces in it?

Good Afternoon,
The drum support rollers are worn out. You have to remove the belt and drum to replace them. If you are fixing this yourself here is what to do: Get some light Emery Cloth and clean the roller shafts and wipe dry with a damp cloth. Get some "High Temp" Lithium Grease and grease the shafts and also the inside bushing of the new rollers. Be careful not to get any grease on the rubber roller or on the threaded end of the shafts. This procedure will give you many years of trouble free service. Please let me know if you need anything else. I hpoe I helped you today and thank you for using FixYa!

My dryer is making a screeching sound

Pretty cheap part, but the drum gotta come out. The plastic bearing has worn then and it is starting to get metal to metal contact. Open the door and remove the screws inside that are holding down the top. Get the front off. Take the belt loose and yank the drum out. Replace the bearing.

Whirpool electric dryer: heat turns on but no rotation

Your problem could be as simple as a broken drive belt.. or an overtemp switch.... If you've never replaced the drive belt.. then that is in all probability your problem.. If you reach inside the dryer drum and try to rotate it.. does it offer any resistance like it is turning a motor pulley system or is it free to rotate with very little resistance ( would suggest the belt broke).. If the cost to repair exceeds the cost to replace then you'd be better off replacing.. However ..if it is just a drive belt.. then I would just replace that.. Hope that helps...

Drum on washer wont spin

It's not worth fixing if it's 10 years old or more, better off replacing it with a newer machine which will be much more efficient!

The belt is gone and or snapped off or the transmission is shot! And it's not worth replacing an old transmission.
If it's 10 years old or more buy a new one
and save your money ,fixing it is a waste!
Not worth the money to fix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
