Keyboard dont type

No matter how careful you may be, knocking a cup of coffee or spilling a glass of soda over your keyboard may happen. This does not, however, mean the end of your keyboard. If you act quickly, you may be able to fix your wet keyboard to avoid any corrosion of its electronic components or any short circuit which might render it unusable. By following a few recommendations, you should be able to fix your wet computer keyboard.

Unplug the keyboard from your computer immediately after the spill to avoid any corrosion or short circuit. If you spilled water over your laptop's keyboard, turn your computer off by clicking on "Shut Down" on "Turn Off" in the start menu, unplug the power supply and remove the battery. Turn the keyboard upside down and shake it to remove most of the water from it. Take a hair dryer and set it to its lowest temperature setting. Use it to dry any water which might remain under your keyboard's keys. Wait at least 12 hours before plugging your keyboard into your computer again. If your computer is a laptop, wait 12 hours before turning it on again. For Other Liquids Disconnect the keyboard from your computer immediately after the spill to avoid any short circuit or corrosion. Turn your computer off by selecting "Shut Down" or "Turn Off" in the start menu, remove the battery and disconnect the power supply. Place paper towels on a table, turn the keyboard upside down and shake it over them to allow most of the liquid to fall down. Take a few clean paper towels and wipe the liquid off your keyboard's keys. To clean between the keys, you can also use cotton swabs with just a little bit of water. If the liquid which you spilled over your keyboard contained a high amount of sugar, such as soda or sugared coffee, you might have to remove some of your keyboard's keys to clean the surface under the keys with paper towels or swabs. You can do so by lifting them gently with a screwdriver or by using a key remover, which you can find in some IT stores. Wait at least 12 hours before using your keyboard again. If your computer is a laptop, wait the same length of time before turning it on again. Water spill, mouse on the fritz

Hi there,
honestly, the only thing you can do, or have done, is to disassemble the laptop, get inside and look at the connectors and components. Sometimes the liquid causes corrosion, and some cleaning with alcohol can clean things up.

This is surely hardware, not an easy software fix.

Other times, cables or connectors can be replaced. I have had the keyboard go bad, the touchpad, the cables to the power strip by the power button, and even leak down into the ram, and corrode the ram contacts.

All were fixable, so it is possible. The key is to get deep inside and check out where the liquid flowed, and examine the parts. A good shop that knows laptops can help.

Laptop keyboard not working right

Well, a couple of things come to mind.

There could possibly be something that got down under the keys and is causing the problem. This could be foreign items (paper clips, staples, etc) or residue from a spilled drink, as an example. If so, these things can sometimes e removed or cleaned up.

The keyboard itself may have gone bad. There's usually not much that can be fixed when this happens and the keyboard would need to be replaced.

A work around that could be used is to hook up an external keyboard.

Hope this has helped and haveasuperday!

Please see if the battery is under warranty and get it replaced from Lenovo. I faced the similar problem last week and got the battery replaced and now it works fine.

Spilled juice on Toshiba Laptop keyboard; now keys do not type at all! is there a way to salvage it without having to buy new replacement

Dear v1ndic8d,

Spilling juice on your laptop is not always the end of your laptop. The best you thing you can do is to order a new keyboard. Go to eBay and enter the model of your laptop plus the word "keyboard" and purchase a new one. Make sure you read the description and the language, etc. Replacing the keyboard itself is not that complicated either. You may very well be able to do it yourself. Return to this site when ready and we'll help you replace it.

Good luck.

Lenovo 3000 n100 won't power up

Hello,

I had posted the Aug 19, 2008 comment about having this problem twice. I tried a new universal AC adapter, and it worked! (new adapter is a Targus APA63US) Now battery is charging and laptop also runs on AC alone. So perhaps it's an adapter problem instead of a battery problem. Get one at a store with a good return policy, so if it doesn't work for you, just return it. And if it does work, then happier days. I've had mine about 2 weeks. So far so good, though with what I've learned about Lenovo since having this problem, it wouldn't surprise me if something else goes wrong, or if the damn thing just blew up, ha ha. Also, this adapter set me back about $100 that I really should not have needed to spend! arrgggh ...

Cheers and Best of Luck and hope this helps other frustrated Lenovo owners!
