Usb port not working

I have been trying to solve the problem i hav lately, except my digi cam and the game pad every thing else that i use i.e. pendrives and card readers are not being recognised.i have been trying to solve the problem from everywhere, though iam not a technician but i think i have exausted all the steps and solution given on the net by people,if there is a possibility that the usb is failed or malfunctioned then in that case can it be repaired, without me buying a new motherboard.

Hello,

i read your problem. so all your stuff connected to usb port is not recognize or not detected at all?

If the pendrive and other stuff and not detected or not attempting to install then the usb ports got faulty. however if this attempting to install the driver. then you need to install the drivers related to your hardwares.

Vista OS is still updating the system to resolve the issue. Go to your hardwares manufacturer's website then download the latest driver for vista.

may this an initial help,

Ok i have this mouse that does not work when i plug it into the usb port. the mouse dosent light up or any thing... what do i do?

First thing to do is to determine which one is at fault : is it the mouse, or the other way around?
Here's how :
  • Try another (known working) USB port
  • Try the mouse onto another known working computer
  • Try another known working mouse
  • Try another known working USB device (flash drive, etc) on USB port
Typically, the mouse needs replacement if it still does not work with another known good usb port or computer. If it's the other way around, then you may have USB port issues with your system.

Thank you for using Fixya.

XP crashed on my Dell latitude D600 laptop. I

go to mfg websight and down load all th proper drivers there is likely a mother board driver not installed that allows it to see the ports
install all of the manufacturer's drivers
dont expect that microsoft wrote windows just for your computer it is a general set of generic drivers that make most things work but not every thing

Ecs gf 8200a usb ports dont work, running vista 64

Could be a bum board or specifically, bum usb controller on the board. Make sure you update your BIOS, and make sure the BIOS says the front USB is activated. You also want to make CERTAIN you have the USB drivers from the motherboard mfr site, because windows native drivers might not be as good as mfr drivers. Also, put a flash drive in the front USB and try to boot from it (youd prolly have to get some linux bootable OS thing to do that with, but im sure its out there somewhere), because if you can boot from a flash drive, it would mean the issue is in the windows OS, and not your bios or usb firmware. Finally, make sure there are no broken USB ports on the board itself, a messed up port on the board might corrupt the rest of them. If all that should fail, you could bypass the problem by dropping an external USB hub on the top of the machine and plugging it to the back. I know thats ugly and causes clutter, but it would solve the immediate issue: the lack of ports. Youd likely be better off with another board though because it seems that the front usb controller is simply not functioning correctly. If you do have to replace the board, get a board from the same mfr with similar features, so that windows vista will be able to start it, or you may have ro reload the OS.

USB PORTS

OMG, ANOTHER HORROR STORY OF CUSTOM BUILT COMPUTERS! THE THINGS PEOPLE DO WITH THESE COMPUTERS, THEY SHOULD HAVE TO WORK ON THEM. I'M REALLY SORRY YOU'RE HAVING PROBLEMS, AND NOT KNOWING THE COMPUTER MAKE I'M GOING TO SUGGEST TRYING SOMETHING THAT MIGHT SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM. YOU SAY THE USB PORTS WERE HARDWIRED TO THE MOTHERBOARD AND THEY ARE ON. THIS MIGHT BE THE PROBLEM. HAVE YOU TRIED TO TURN THEM OFF AND THEN INSTALL THE USB CARD AND REBOOT? SEE IF THE COMPUTER WILL RECOGNIZE THE NEW USB CARD IN THE SLOT INSTEAD. THIS MIGHT DO THE TRICK. HAVING THE HARDWIRED USB TURNED ON WOULD CAUSE A CONFLICT WITH TRYING TO INSTALL ANOTHER USB CARD. ALSO, HAVE YOU TRIED USING A USB MINI-HUB INSTEAD? POSSIBLY THE MINI HUB MIGHT BE AN EASIER SOLUTION, SINCE THEY SELDOM NEED ANY SOFTWARE ETC. TO FUNCTION. I HOPE THIS GIVES YOU A COUPLE OF IDEAS TO TRY AND POSSIBLY SOLVE THIS STICKY PROBLEM. IF YOU NEED MORE HELP JUST REPLY TO:

Have you got the original driver disks? If not - search for downloadable drivers for the USB ports and keyboard (if you post the product numbers, people will be able to link a driver site for you if you can't find one).
