I'm guessing you have a basic Briggs and Stratton engine, which is the standard on these machines (or a Tecumseh). The standard oil used in almost every mower on the planet is straight 30 weight oil (not multi-viscosity, such as 10W30). Just 30 weight. There should be a label on the side of the engine and on that label, it will actually be listed, but I'm going with 30 weight. For longer engine life, use synthetic oil. It will need less changing. Here is a photo off one of my Tecumseh's. You'll see it clearly states SAE 30 right there on the sticker. Hope this helps. i bought a poulan pro - knucklebstr.jpg

We have a 550 pro series and it didn't come with a maual and we were wondering what type of oil to put in it. The model number is PR550N22SHX.

I would suggest using Briggs and Stratton 10w-30 oil. If this is not the correct engine manufacturer for your unit then I would suggest using that manufacturer's oil. But a 10w-30 oil that is used in air cooled engines should work ok.

I bought a reconditioned Poulan pro PP4629AVX and I can't find a manual for it. What is the oil to gas mixture? Thanks Steve

The fuel-oil mixture ratio for all Poulan two-cycle products is 40:1. You can obtain this ratio by mixing 3.2 oz. of oil with one gallon of regular gas.

My sister bought a Pro 550. Got a good deal but there was no manual with it. Brand new from Walmart. Was working fine. used it twice. No problems. Boyfriend came by. Said she was suppose to put the whole...

Option #1:If its less than 90 days old return it to walmart.
Option #2: drain the oil and refill with the correct amount. Contact Puolan or a poulan dealer for a manual.
locate the model number and look for your manual here

Engine started smoking real bad, it still starts

Could be just a head gasket, also could be rings. Could also be oil in the gas or bad gas overall. Empty out the gas, change the oil, and try again. If it does the same thing take it to service shop.
