This is the most unfriendly consumer problem I can remember ever dealing with. In order to change the Maytag microwave light bulb you need to practically disassemble the unit reach inside (small hands are needed) and when you replace the Maytag bulb with a standard 20 watt appliance bulb as the manual says, you discover that a standard bulb does not fit...it's too short and you can't get the replacement just anywhere...can you suggest where one can get Maytags "special" bulbs? ...now I feel just a little better.
The problem I had is that the base of the bulb was too wide for the socket. I ground down the glass edges of the bulb base and it slid right in. It did not take much, but, I had to grind down both sides. I used a diamond rasp bit in my Dremel medium speed. My first thought was to grind down the receptica edges, but, the bulb is less expensive to replace.

Changing the light bulb on your Sharp carousel microwave will allow you to have needed light inside the oven. Microwaves are not designed for consumers to change the light bulb due to manufacturer liability, but it can be done. Following the proper steps will ensure a successful installation.

Locate the screws around the outer cover of the Sharp carousel microwave and unscrew all the screws.
Lift off the covering.
Locate the bulb and unscrew. Screw in your new bulb.
Replace the cover and screw back tightly. Once done, test your new bulb.
The cooktop light bulb(s) is(are) located on the underside of the microwave oven, and is(are) replaceable. Remove bulb cover screw, and open the bulb cover. Replace bulb, close bulb cover, and secure with screw. By hood light I assume that the light you want to replace shines from the bottom of the unit, not the light inside the microwave. If so check out he Disassembly video on this site: Maytag Microwave Light Bulb Not Working
It is because the light bulb may not be the problem to begin with. You should check the light bulb socket and related wiring and connectors for any cold solder joints.
If you have a multimeter you can check to see if there is any AC voltage going to the socket. If you don't know whast your doing then I would suggest you get someone that does. Remember your dealing with 120 volts.
Blew a trace off of the back of the board by it shorting out when the bulb was unscrewed, Either have to find someone to repair the main circuit board or order a new one. But $$$$ always unplug the Microwave to replace the builbs, It doesnt seem like a big deal but I have seen this a lot over the years and it really does some damage to the main PC board.
Check the owner's manual to see if yours is a model which allows access to the lights without pulling it down from the wall.
Accessing the lights on some models will require you to remove the oven from the wall.
so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have
two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

Many use halogen
lamps. You must not touch the new one with your bare skin, as the oils
will shorten the bulb life.

I did not fix the problem. I ordered a bulb (lamp) and subsequently saw it is beyond my knowledge to install it. I'll communicate with the store where I bought it 3 months ago and if they won't deal with it, I'll pay a repairman to do it.
