No they dont make a noise when they are new in correct fitting of the brushes cause this.. on certain motors the brushes can be fit onto it in two ways.. check to see if you motor has more than one position method

Washing machine isn't spinning and making a loud humming noise . Could it be the brushes need replacing ?

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

If it is carrying out the wash cycle it still COULD be the brushes but it is difficult to say from a distance!
However it COULD be the control board not powering the motor on fast spin- a visual at the brushes and commutator should clarify.
Brushes
Now, a word or two of advice from a retired Englishman in SW France. It might be suggested that just the brushes on the motor want changing; experience (of others) suggests that they may only last months rather than many years UNLESS the motor itself is refurbished. Refurbishment includes skimming the commutator on which the brushes run. Without skimming the brushes do not sit cleanly on the commutator, often causing excessive sparking and excessive wear on BOTH. Alternately a new motor! I changed the motor on our 19+ year-old Bosch at a cost of GBP250 ;-0(
It's your choice though ;-0)

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

Please note that I pre-typed this some time ago for others, to cover for similar symptoms as your initial problem but I do think the advice is relevant. Sorry.

It does sound as if the motor requires replacement unless it is the control board not powering the motor.

Neff washing machine not spinning. Fine yesterday, slightly funny noise and now drum not moving on wash or spin! Any clues?

Could be worn Carbon brushes on the motor.Check belt has not fallen off though...some Neff you need to buy half motor to fit new brushes as it comes this way, perhaps a good test is to blow ut any dust next to the brushes this may allow the motor to Briefy run long enough to tell if brushes are worn ..Half motor cost to buy - 60 GBP......Happy new year...

Just replaced the brushes, when the drums turning there is a whinning noise?please help???

It could be that you have not fitted the brushes correctly, or it could be the new brushes bedding in, if it is working o/k then I think you will find the noise will gradually disappear with use.

Thanks.

Hotpoint WM 22 wont spin

The first you need to do is check the brushes in the motor.
Remve the screws at rear of top cover, remove cover.
Slacken off the 2 bolts securing motor, and remove belt.Remove 2 screws that hold motor and lift motor up so you can access the brushes..
The brush holders will be either black or white, depress the plastic lug that holds the brush in place, and slide the holders out, remove the wires to the brushes, and check the carbons, if their is less than 2 or 3 mm left, then replace them.
Only fit the genuine brushes, and if you can make sure you fit the black ones, as they are better than the white ones.
Follow the instructions on the packaging on how to release the carbons from the captive position.
Refit motor, and ensure the belt is reasonably tight.
If it still does not work ,then the motor itself could be faulty, check for broken wires in the motor plug and harness.
Plz rate my solution.
Thanks.

Washing Machine 1200 Aquarius- Hot point- will not spin?

hotpoint use two types of brush depending on the motor. if motor mounted at top of machine, brushesw are clip in and very easy to replace. look at new brush and you will see how it clips in. no need to remove motor. if motor at base of machine, brushes are screwed in with two screws per brush. rather fiddly to do in situ and you may be better of removing motor and doing job in an easy position
