Question about HP Photosmart C4280 Aio Printer

1 Answer

Reinstall software each time the printer is reconnected

The printer is connected to a Toshiba A55-S326 laptop running XP Home edition.
Almost daily, the printer is disconnected from the laptop because the laptop is used in other places. My problem is when I return and reconnect the printer, the printer will not work until I reinstall it. This is time consuming, the install disk has to be placed back into the cd and I have to wait until everything is finally reinstalled. I have copied the disk to the hard drive but I still have to direct the program to that folder. The printer that was installed previously will not work so I have to reinstall. After the re-installation, if I check the printer and fax folder the printer will be installed as a copy of the previous printer. At one time this printer was listed 8 times. What can be done so that when I reconnect the printer I won't have to reinstall the software each time?

Completed registration steps, did not solve problem.
Rebooted computer after install,
Used same USB port.
Searched for updated drivers
None of these solved the problem.

Hmmm...maybe the way to do this is to use the remove hardware icon in control panel, instead of simply disconnecting the printer from the laptop.

also, go to www.hp.com and get the newest drivers, which are almost certainly more recent vintage than those on the cd.

Printing failed

This is usually caused by corrupted printer drivers. It's most often seen after an upgrade from a previous operating system when the printer was kept connected and turned on during the upgrade.

Solution: Completely Uninstall and Reinstall your Printer and 'force' XP to see new drivers:

Step 1
Disconnect the printer from the PC

Step 2
Go to the Control Panel and click on Add/Remove Programs. Highlight any Printer Software that is listed here. Select Remove.

Step 3
From the Control Panel, click on Printers & Faxes. Right click the printer in question and select Delete

Step 4
Look at the Toolbar. Select File, then Server Properties. Look in the Drivers tab. Highlight the printers drivers listed here and click on Remove for each one.

Step 5
Reboot the PC. Do NOT reconnect the printer!

Step 6
Go to the website of your printer manufacturer. Look for new XP drivers for your model. Download the correct software. If there are no Windows XP drivers for your printer, try looking for ones for Windows 2000. In most cases these will do almost as well.

Step 7
Run the exe file you just downloaded. It should auto-start the installation program

Step 8
The software will tell you when to connect the printer.

Step 9
Once the software is installed and the printer connected, try a test page. Top printer service

Windows XP SP3 will not recognize the printer is connected.

It could be the cable, but most likly it is a damaged driver. try uninstalling the printer and all the drivers then reboot and resinstall it. You could also run "sfc /scannow" to see if any system files are damaged.

Drivers for Lexmark x5470 disapear after the laptop is turned on.

Hey,

Fully uninstall the lexmark from your computer, everything, delete the printer from printers and faxes and make sure there is no trace of the printer on the computer.

Then get the files you downloaded and install the printer again.

Everything should work normally.

Thanks,
Ekse

HP OFFICEJET ALL IN ONE

Normal 0 Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

Home Center will not open...Can't scan

I needed to reload my AiO Home Center software and no one seemed to have the correct procedure. Maybe if you remove & reinstall yours it will resolve your problem. This procedure worked for me on my XP-machine:
1. got to Control Panel/Printers&Faxes and delete the printer
2. go to your Hardware/Device Manager/Universal Serial Bus Controllers, right-click on USB Composite Device and select Uninstall
3. go to Control Panel/Add/Remove Software and remove the EasyShare software
4. disconnect the cables from the Printer
5. download from Kodak.com the program "install_aio.exe"; run the program
(I selected only AiO+EasyShare+Software Updater to load)
6. followed the prompts after the sw installed to reconnect the Printer cables
7. rebooted

WORKED for ME !

Computer won't recognize printer

We know it isn't the printer or the USB cable. We know it isn't the software. You are running Windows XP on both the desktop and laptop, correct? On your desktop, you go to 'Start''Settings''Printers' and is the printer there ?? Try this; go to 'Start' 'Settings''Control Panel'. Double click the 'System' icon. Click on tab 'Hardware', click on 'Device Manager'. Do you see a yellow (!) on any Universal Serial Bus Controller. If not, were good. Check all USB ports with a USB mouse or device to make sure they're active.
