To start with win xp is no longer supported by Microsoft as is win 7
that means that any faults will not be rectified so if it doesn't install correctly after a couple of attempts up grade to win 8 or win 10
many programs will now not run on xp as they all modified to run win 7 or later

Im trying to use skype with video capture but its saying it cannot find a video capture device. Its got a vide camera built in etc so how can I re install the software or settings to get it working?

Hi crewmsltd
Sorry to hear you are having problems. Please move all you data off your ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BK drive as we are going to wipe the whole drive. This means any data left on it will be deleted forever; irretrievably. You can do this with a thumb drive/USB stick. Please make sure all the data is moved. I cannot stress this enough. Once we wipe the drive it is gone forever.
Once you are totally happy all your data has been moved and you have checked this we can do the restore which takes just a few seconds if it is Linux or longer if it XP.
  • Start your Netbook and press the F9 key on your keyboard until you see a loading screen.
  • The restoration program prepares the files needed for the operation.
  • A message appears asking if you want to perform the operation, you will lose all files on your machine.
  • Confirm by clicking ?.
  • The restore process is done automatically , without any human intervention.
  • At the end of the restoration, the machine will reboot on its own, and make configurations.
  • A restart is performed again, and you're on the setup process of the Operating System , same as the first boot after buying the Netbook.

Then check for any updates. Read twice and click once and only install updates for 1005HA-PU1X-BK It may offer updates for other models and you do not want to install these. Install the updates one at a time and it does take some time. This fresh install should install the latest version of Skype which has support for using the webcam. Earlier versions did not.
NOTE: Please make sure you have moved all your data from the drive before doing the restore. All the best now, Phil

Not able to reboot after windows update. My model i Asus eee 1005pc netbook. I dont want to loose the data that i have by taking reset to factory options. Any way out

how far do you get before your computer stops booting? I believe that this was only a coincident that it happened after a windows update. have you tried booting using the Windows "safe mode?" you can do this by pressing the F8 key during the boot.

in the future you should configure a second partition on your hard drive and save any and all data to this partition, this way you can reinstall windows and all of your data will be safe.
best to do this during the installation from Windows, but there are also tools out there that can do it after windows is installed.

hope I could help

How can i get Asus Eee PC back to factory settings?

Hi. Actually when you restore your system to its factory settings it will restore everything on your computer including the original operating system, but if you're saying that you have installed windows 7 on it then try going to ASUS driver support website, just type in their the model of your machine and it will ouput every software and drivers available for laptop and also different versions of operating system, So just choose the correct OS version for your laptop. Hope this Helps
