Harddrive does not kickin

When I power up my computer the power stays on the screen remains blank and the harddrive lights up for about 2 seconds and then shuts down. Any idea as to what might be causing this to happen. also not sure if it is related or not but 2 days prior to this happening all of my usb ports stopped recognizing all of my hardware

It sounds like you had a mother board failure. its probably not fixable but i would still suggest taking out the computers ram and sticking it back in. i have ran into issue of that before. but from what your saying your computer wont even get to post( power on self test) which indicates a hardware issue. given you said that the usb stopped working on you i would say something fried on your motherboard.

( Dell xps m1530 laptop ) Monitor blank, powers up but screen won't come on.

It ISN'T the LCD screen. Since you diagnosed with an external VGA monitor, you now know the problem is the laptop.

(When you connect an external VGA monitor to a laptop, you are bypassing the Video Cable, and LCD screen. You are connected directly to the laptop )

The basic Windows files aren't being found. The boot files. This may mean a bad Harddrive.

Do you have the Restoration CD Disk? Laptop on insert it into the optical drive tray, close the tray.
When asked choose - Repair. (Non-Destructive Installation)

If a checkdisk is done, you have bad sectors on the harddrive.
There IS a special procedure in replacing a harddrive.

hello

shut down computer - unplug power cord from laptop - remove the battery from laptop - plug Ac adapter into computer and Ac outlet (wall)
turn on computer
if computer does not turn on, replace the AC adapter and cord - then place battery back into computer
plug in new Ac adapter and cord - recharge battery - if orange light stays on after 4-6 hours of charging battery, you need new battery as well - replace battery, charge it up and it should be fine

if you have attempted these steps before and no change occurs, then you may have issue with power connection in computer - locate a service centre to replace power connection on computer

My screen doesnt work.

I suggest you to perform these steps.
Test the AC adapter Follow the steps below to determine whether the problem is related to the AC adapter or your notebook system board.
  1. Remove the battery and disconnect all external devices from the computer.
  2. Hold the Power button for several seconds, with all power sources removed. This drains residual power from the system, and may correct many problems.
  3. Connect the AC adapter to a wall outlet and plug the other end into the computer.
  4. Press the Power button to start the notebook PC.
If the notebook does not start or the display is blank then check the power indicator light or power socket LED. I suggest you to connect the notebook to external monitor and check whether its working or not. Then please perform the harddrive self test also.

Blank screen. Remains blank

Power down, remove the battery, remove the power plug. Hold down the power button for at least 30 seconds. Remove and reinstall the memory module(s). Re install the power plug and try to power back up and see if it works. If it does, reinstall the battery ad you're done. If not, get back to me for some more ideas and further diagnosis.
Thanks and have a good day!
