Makes loud hum noise but does heat

That is a symptom that the magnetron circuit has failed. It the part that generates the microwaves that heat the food. Not worth fixing since the replacement part can cost as much as as a new oven. Sorry.

We were using the microwave the other night and it started making a loud noise like the fan was running (although the fan was not). We let it sit for awhile and try to use it again but the noise came...

The loud noise and no heat means that the magnetron has failed. It the part that generates the microwaves that heat the food. When it fails it shorts out, causing the transformer to heat up. That is what was causing the burning smell. The cost of a replacement magnetron is around $130-150 range so it may not make sense to have it fixed.

Microwave will not heat

If everything else works, like display, light, turntable, but does not heat, it probally the magentron circuit that failed. It the part that generates the microwaves that heat the food. When it fails, it makes a loud buzzing sound. If this is the case, it not worth fixing since the replacement magnetron cost as much as a new oven. Sorry.

My Kenmore 721.626222 which I have had about 6 years, runs but does not heat. There is also a strange smell - something like a burning smell.

When the oven does not heat, the problem is usually due to the magnetron failing. It the part that generates the microwaves that heat the food. It fails by shorting out causing a loud buzzing noise. The burning smell is the being magnetron overloaded due to the short. It not worth fixing since the replacement cost of a magnetron is close to the price of a new oven. Sorry.

Started flashing and making popping noises, but still heated ok. Then stopprdheating and just makes a loud buzzing noise

The magnetron is most likely the problem, it heats the food and is the heart of the of the microwave oven, if it was followed by unusual odor more noticeable when you open the door that would confirm it, but that is not always the case. The cost to repair would exceed the cost of a new one

There is a loud buzzing noise that happens when we try to use our microwave. It just started today. What could this be and how can we fix it?

the magnetron most likely has either failed or fixing to fail it is what heats the food while in operation...there is a high voltage transformer in the unit that sends power to the magnetron and heats your food while in operation ...it is a common problem with microwaves the mag usually gets weak and will start to humm or buzz .... the problem with this is they are and can be costly around $100.00 for part and depending on your mechanically capability may be well worth getting a new one rather that tackling the repair yourself... good luck hope this helps please vote.

Everything appears to work. but the food does not heat up

The lack of heat would mean a failure in the magnetron circuit. It is the part that generates microwaves that heats the food. If it is making a loud buzzing noise when you operate the oven, it usually means that the magnetron has failed. It can cost as much as a new oven to repair, so it not worth fixing.

Microwave oven: GE Spacemaker 1400 not heating. Model number JVM1430AB001. Need guidance on troubleshooting and repair of unit. Thanks!

If the oven is making a loud buzzing noise when you try to warm food and the food remains cold, it usually means that the magnetron has failed. Not usually worth fixing since the parts alone can cause as much as a new oven.

Heat element not working

Well, if there is not heating the food and making a loud buzzing or humming sound when it is on, then the magnetron has failed. It typically shorts out and fails. The magnetron for this cost $140 plus the cost of the service call, you're better off buying a new oven. Hope this helps.

Microwave comes on but not heat item

It's most likely the magnetron that has failed if it does not heat the food. The magnetron is the part the generates the microwaves. When it fails, it typically shorts out, and makes a loud hum or buzzing noise. If this is the case, it is not worth fixing since the cost of the magnetron is almost as much as getting a new oven. Sorry.
