Tried another repairer - Philips specialist. Fixed and returned by the next day. Reasonable cost and excellent service. YTV Repairs Burley Road, Leeds. Even got the two replaced ceramic filter capacitors back! Can you suggest what I can do with them?

The TV started smoking. Thought it might be dust. doesn't appear to be.

Your tv is burning part of it's electronics. Turn it off and unplug it. Either take it to a repair ship or replace it.

please find above a service and training manual, this should help you diagnose the problem. But, it is nearly always my professional opinion that one should always get a "Quote" from the manufacturers recommended service center, Phillips, in your case, please contact a local or head office and ask for a referral to an Authorised service center. I cannot stress how important that last point is. It is even worth the cost of shipping. You see an authorised service agent, will have trained staff, trained on their brand, also they have first hand access to parts, original parts. This will actually save you money and ensure you can actually get it back fixed. Of course asking for a "Quote" also gives on the option of repair or replace. Often my clients,do not go through with repair, unless it is moderate, but in some of the more costly jobs they see it, as do i, that a replacement, with a warranty, is a better option. As an aside here, one could then tear the TV down, and sell the Known Good bits. You'd be surprised who needs parts, i myself often must by from third party sources to effect a repair. So money could be recouped, somewhat, and help out someone else.

I might contact a local TV Service Shop, they usually keep ones that people don't wish to repair. They just might have a screen for you.

Philips rear projection TV model 60P8342.

It`s not Eprompt, it`s the Eprom, Erasable Read Only Memory. The Eprom holds all the information in it about your set like has it got Ni-cam Sound, A wide-screen, A projection set plus a lot of other information like Convergence settings, RGB setup, PAL, NTSC settings plus customer settings like Colour, brightness etc. There are other settings besides these which are in binary bit code which can control the power supply, Standby timing etc etc. The Eprom may only be an eight or a sixteen pin device but it a crucial part of the set where information is perminantly being read from the Eprom to make sure the three guns are set correctly and the convergence errors are being kept in check. This is a very time consuming job even for a qualified technician, I know, I used to do these and Philips sets are notorious for Eprom and uPC failures. The Eprom comes formatted from the suppliers, so there`s absolutley no information in it at all meaning that you have to start from zero. If you can get the set to come on long enough and you can get the set into service mode, you may be lucky where you can write down the 200-300 or so settings, If not, WHAT A JOB. Believe me, you can change the Eprom in 2 minutes, but it could take 1 or 2 days to set it all up again and even then it`s very difficult to get it perfect. Ian

Remote is not working with tv

You probably have a defective IR receiver in the set, have it looked at by your local service company.

Tv fell and landed on the corner of my cocktail table. Now the screen(s) has a big gash in it. how much does it cost to fix it? Where do i go?

I'm not sure what your local TV repair shop would charge to repair the screen. You can usuallyfind a local repair shop in your telephone book under "TV Repair". They usually will give you a quote over the phone and some will give you the option of bringing the TV to the shop for repair, or they will come to your house(for a charge, of course) and transport it to their shop. Not all repair shops offer this service, especially in smaller towns, so be sure and ask if they offer this if transporting the TV yourself is a problem. Good luck! Hope this helps...
