No, you've got it in one.

I think you'd only have two memory slots anyway.. so shut down, unplug the power, then remove the existing memory. Push the white tabs that are on either end of the memory out and down until the memory pops loose. Remove it, then install the new memory the same way around.

I'm not sure if your motherboard can support 2gb of RAM, but in any case, that is the correct procedure for upgrading memory.

No, you will have to use DDR memory only. Fortuately, DDR id VERY inexpensive now.
I can recommend www.TigerDirect.com

I recently purchased Two PNY 1Gb ram to upgrade from original 512mb. When I put both 1Gb ram in the slots, the computer will not boot up. When I take one out and put the original 512 back in with the other...

I don't know your specific model, but some of the Emachines had some memory directly on the motherboard. With the 1Gb and 512Mb sticks installed, boot the machine and report how much memory the system sees. Perhaps the onboard memory is causing you to exceed the 2Gb limit.

Please post the memory size you get here with the above sticks.

Thanks,

I am trying to expand memory by inserting 2 PC3200 (DDR400) but total amont of memory size does not changed (still 512 MB) First slot (DDR1) APACER-512 MB Second slot (DDR2) LG Electronics - 1GB

Hi,

Take the stick of 512 out of the motherboard and insert the 1GB stick in DIMM 1 slot and switch the machine on. If it comes on check whether it has registered it as 1GB. If it has turn the machine off and just put in the 512 stick.

If the machine won't boot up with the 1GB stick then it could be faulty or the motherboard doesn't support 400MHz (which it should).

Regards.

I need to buy memory for my computer its an emachines desktop model# T3410 512 MB DDR SDRAM and I dont know what to get

in DDR ram there is some models like ddr and ddr2 and another new model is DDR3. First you check what is your ram related to. for that in some pcs bios option system information the details are there. For that at the time of booting before windows logo press the button whatever is showing to enter setup. and check otherwise remove your ram and take that to a computer shop and take a new ram with same model.

And one more thing is you have to check your clock speed of your ram. Remove your ram from pc and check if any information is there on ram

I have 512 mg of memory. Would there be a big difference if I add a 1 gb stick and keep the 512 mb , as oppose to removing the 512 mb and replace with two 1 gb sticks?

The performance of your laptop will improve if similar memory is placed in each of memory slot.If 1gb memory and 512mb memory are placed in available slot you will only get the performance of a single 1gb memory.but two 1gb memory are used performance will be similar to a 2gb ram or more.

Upgrade from 512MB to 1GB

The specs on the memory are correct, so you purchased the correct type of memory for this motherboard. If your getting no video when you power on with the 1gb stick, I would be willing to bet the 1gb stick is bad. Can you return it and try another stick?
