Question about Samsung MW1030WA Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Keypad for Samsung microwave

My Friend: I have a Samsung microwave, model # MW1430WA which is autostarting and dangerously overheating. I understand Samsung is recalling some ovens for this problem due to a faulty keypad. Could you advise me how to get Samsung to address this problem as their customer service stinks. Thank you.

I called Samsung and I was told my model is not covered. My microwave is having the same problem, so I don't see why they should be so selective in fixing the problem. So much for Samsung Customer Care.

OK, then yours is not subject to recall, so it's to be treated as a stand out of warranty repair. I can help you there, too.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

You can order Samsung parts here.

If you would like to have us do this for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you need more help.

Microwave displaying SE in the display panel, it is only 5 months old.

An SE error on a Samsung microwave means you have a shorted membrane keypad.
If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and please do not leave it running unattended.

When pushed, the 30 sec button says 3 minutes. none of the display buttons work.

Have you inadvertently programmed your microwave for "autostart"?
Your model microwave has the ability to be programmed to go on at any given time of the day/night, even when you're not home so that you can have a defrosted and cooked meal waiting for you when you get in.
I know that if you hit the 30 sec button or the minute button when your micro is programmed to autostart it will tell you the time that it's programmed to autostart or the amount of time that's left for it continue cooking.

Have you tried unplugging it for a few minutes?
This should clear it's memory and then all you'll have to do is set the time on the regular clock if you want.

Here's where you can download and read your owners manual for further instructions on how to use the autostart feature and everything else:

5 E error on samsung microwave

An "SE" error on a Samsung microwave means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and please do not leave it running unattended.

You can check here to see if your model may have been involved in a recall to fix a defective keypad, etc.

If not, then there are possibly 3-4 options to get it fixed, some DIY, some not.

To allow us to help you effectively (at no charge), please post a NEW problem to FixYa, and please include your brand name and the full model number from the tag in or on the unit, your symptom, "SE error".

Samsung microwave MW1430WA often refuses to respond to any control buttons. Sometimes it shows ''ON'', sometimes ''OFF'' and on these occasions will often restore Time by pressing ''Pause/Cancel'',...

You have a failing membrane keypad.

On some models, you have to peel off the old one and replace it.

On some models, you remove your controller and move your circuit board into a new frame with a keypad already installed.

Our samsung microwave displays shows 5E and hangs up. We can hold down the start and clear at the same time and will clear off for a second.

It's usually more economical on a Samsung to replace the control panel assembly, which includes the frame and keypad or (depending on your model number) the entire control box assembly which includes the keypad, frame and circuit board.

Either parts swap is easy to do. About 8 screws and a few connectors.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Intermittent keypad operation

A new keypad is not difficult to install, and can be worthwhile.

It's part # DE34-10139B and you can get one for $18.71 plus shipping from http://www.samsungparts.com

If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

We're able to install them for folks who don't want to do it themselves.
