Re: Magellan Maestro GPS 4250 original data erased....

Magellan sent new firmware upgrade for install. Installation software had problems reading my blank SD card in my 4250. Tried different ways to make it work and in the process, I accidentally erased all my data in my 4250. Please help.

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

Need some assistance in how to upgrade software for moultrrie d551r pro deer camera

The firmware update only adds the 15-second delay between pictures, so that shouldn't help with your problem.

Looking at the manual, the first thing I saw was the note: "AN SD CARD MUST BE INSTALLED FOR THE CAMERA TO OPERATE". Troubleshooting was nonexistent in the manual I saw online.

No Windows software is included; you just open Explorer, find the device and browse the pics there. Any USB camera or SD card can be read as another hard drive device.

Perhaps if you elaborate on the problem, I can find the cause. Have you tried moving the SD card to the computer, to read it, to see if it's collecting images? Have you tried the USB connection to a computer?

You need to format the disk ....

The drives can be read by another computer, so the problem is most likely with OS/drivers on the HP giving the error. The specific drivers required to read each drive format could be missing/corrupt. Formatting shouldn't be performed on a drive that contains data unless backed up (redundantly). It may be possible to recover any lost data using free recovery software. Often a format preserves data, erases only the file directory.

I would try a system restore on the HP. If that fails to correct it install or upgrade format specific drivers (e.g. SD/SDXC drivers). Contact Magellan about the GPS: you may have formatted the device's system partition. It is unlikely your computer had the correct drivers to format that device, and it is likely formatted in an incompatible format (such as NTFS). Does Magellan provide a utility to read the device's memory? The SD card should be salvageable by formatting on another computer using the appropriate formatting utility. (Go to and navigate to their formatting utility.)

From that site: "If an SDXC memory card is used through the direct SD slot of a computer without SDXC driver installation, the card may not be recognized correctly and a message to prompt formatting may appear. In this case, do not format the SDXC memory card. It may erase the data on the SDXC memory card and format the card for a different file system, making it incompatible with SDXC devices."

Our Magellan Maestro 4250, came on by itself and will not turn off.

is it plugged to AC charge when it comes on?

If not seek out the RESET hole and place a fine pin or paper clip end in and reset the unit

Magellan Maestro 4250 2008/2009 Map Update will not update my GPS

I also had problems with a refurbished Magellan 4250. The paperwork inside said to install the 4.85 firmware update which I found would not work with Windows XP Home at least for me. I used my laptop which has Vista Ult 32 bit it updated with no problem that is so far the only solution I used.

Maestro 4250 frozen after incomplete 2009 map up date

I had same problem on 3/28/09.

According to Magellan and other people who have experienced the same problem, this is terminal to the unit. It can be caused by downloading the 08/09 Magellan map upgrade, which can cause the unit to permanently lock up. Magellan is well aware of the problem, and should offer to replace your unit if you have the problem. If you elect to have it repaired, Magellan can download the map upgrade for you in the repair process. Here is a site noting the same problem:

Questions for Magellan: 1) why would they sell, in 2009, gps units with old 2007 maps loaded in them, requiring the purchaser to buy a current map, and 2) if there is a problem with downloading the current maps, why is there not an advisement or warning to the installer.

Other than replacing the unit, there appears to be no "fix".

No a practical solution, but at least you will get your device repair, after being on hold for 40 minutes I spoke to a very nice rep, unfortunately evethough she didn't admit it, it seems a software problem with the new 2008/2009 map update, in other words no way to fix it, you need to send it for repair, make sure you tell them to update the device with the new 2008/2009 Maps, if not you will have the same problem later on, Good Luck
