Hello, I am writing on behalf of an elderly friend in England who has the above machine, and uses Windows Vista.
He cannot work out how to print documents in black ink only. I am in Spain, and although I have looked and looked on the Internet for a manual I can download to look for the answer, sadly I cannot find a manual.
Can you help me please, I need to explain it very simply to him, and at this distance it's hard!

go to canon us support product menu printers/ip/1600/ downloads and driver. This will give you the software for your printer. I'm assuming your using xp as this is required. If your on windows 7 that os should recognize your ip 1600 and install the drivers itself.
For using 64 bit you need to install driver for 64 bit os. You cna download driver from below link . Select your operating system there like xp 64 or vista 64 . Then download driver in computer then install it in computer then you can use it. Let me know if you need further assistance.

Is where you can download your drivers to install it (after entering your operating system IE Windows XP or Vista). In addition to this you will require an A to B USB Cable (can be found in any computer store). You will also need a standard 2 pin power cord. These are common and are used on many things from stereos to printers. Any printer or computer shop should have some laying around (we have thousands here). Finally you will need to see if there are any ink cartridges in the printer (and if there are whether or not they work). If not then you will need to purchase a Canon PG-40 Black Cartridge and a Canon CL-41 Colour cartridge. This will be your last step though as you won't be able to test your cartridges until it is hooked to your computer.
