Question about Acer Aspire 5500 5570-2609 Laptop
I have had this laptop for about a year and I pretty much leave it on 24 hours per day. Lately, overnight or during the day while I am at work (and the laptop is home), it has begun to shut itself off. It appears to be doing an "orderly" shut down because it never runs checkdisk at startup, but I could be wrong.
The laptop remains plugged in most of the time, which I am sure is not best for the battery; I believe it does need a new battery because it doesn't last very long anymore.
Within the Acer ePower Management, it is set to "Maximum Performance." I did change the settings for "System Standby" and "System Hibernation" to "Never," but it still shuts down.
Many times I leave work or web pages open so that I can pick up where I left off, so this has become a bit frustrating. If anyone can advise me on getting it to stay on again, I would greatly appreciate it.
I have similar problem to the one in this link:
The different is, it runs checkdisk at startup. So this mean the system was not shut down properly.
Last month, it shut down if I left it idle for more than 2 hours. Now, only 30 minutes.
Anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it? Thanks.
Blow the dust out of your computer....it may fix the overheating problem.

Does it just shut down randomly? and then when you turn it back on it shuts down nearly straight away? if so then it sounds like the processor is overheating and as a saftey mechanism it shuts down. which could be a big problem.
or you just need a new battery. because you are supposed to only charge it when it is dead. if you keep it on charge and plug it into the mains randomly,then the battery will eventually lose it capacitence (basically how much charge it can hold) and then it wont last long atall. you want to hope its the battery.
