Yes it is true that maxtor has launched a hdd of the specification as mentioned in your post.
the same exists on maxtors website as well

the hdd comes along with one touch software that is used for data protection and recivery and has the same features as emc retrospect. further you can download the one touch software from

Cannot read my maxtor in the computer

Put the bad drive back in and just like it was. Take the maxtor cd to another computer and make the diag cd. Boot your system from this cd. It's written in linux so it can boot the system. Most of the time this happens when the drive is unreadable. It's caused by the controller chip in the drive thinking the partition is gone. It will tell you to partition and format. If you get the dreaded 006 error then the drive is usless. Get the referance number it says to give the tech. If under warranty then go to maxtor site and fill out the mra forms. This is where you're gonna need the ref number. Maxtor is REAL picky about how you pack it so follow their directions.
if you don't have the cd you can get MaxBlast from their web site.

Driver does not install atomatically

With the computer off, plug the unit in to the computer and turn it on.

Now start the computer, there is no driver to install manually, windows
uses generic drivers to detect plug n play devise's.

Out of hundreds of computers, the only time I have not seen a hard
drive detected was because the hard drive was bad, and the others
where hacked versions of windows, called lite xp, or the chipset drivers
where not loaded because someone just installed windows but nothing else.

You can look through your bios for plug n play, but its probably set to auto.

Most external HD's take a while to be detected from 10 seconds up to a few minutes.

If the driver does not install automatically, what driver are you installing
that you get it to work ??????????????????????????

I have mislaid the power cable for my Maxtor OneTouch 4, do you not where I can buy a replacement?

Online: www.eBay.com

Any "big box" store: Office Depot, Radio Shack, Circuit City, Staples, Future Shop, Best Buy, Walmart, or even at some "Nothing Over A Dollar Stores" or maybe at a local "Thrift Store" or "Value Village".

Or, online, through the manufacturer's web-site: www.maxtor.com

Maxtor II external-Won't work on new MacBooks or MacMini's w/duo core CPU's. Junk.

Did you have to format the external drive when you set it up on your G4? You'll probably have to format the drive with the computer you want to use it with. I have seen external hard drives unusable until formatted.
I hope I'm wrong about this, and good luck.

One hard drive failure mode is a power circuit short. Contact MAXTOR support on their web site for a possible warranty replacement. BTW, SEAGATE owns MAXTOR now.
