Strange snowy specks on Screen

Hi, this is my first time posting here and I have a bit of a problem. I've noticed it recently when I started seriously multitasking but noticed it immediately when I decided to play second life. Everytime I have something multimedia (like BSplayer or some sort of game runnning) I have these strange specks that look like snow you'd see on TV on my monitor. Sometimes if I minimize the window and maximize it again, it goes away but now it's happening with more frequency until I have to restart my computer. It covers everything and it seems as like it freezes a partial screen or something. I've updated drivers and bios but the problem continues. Any ideas on how to fix? Thanks!

If you have a known brand name video adapter, you can attempt to update from their site rather then the Toshiba Site, but I cannot guarantee that it will work since laptop graphics chips have custom drivers made that will not work with generic drivers

Why replacement harddrive wont install operating software

If it is a new hard drive it could need formatting or if it already has software loaded it could need the drive formatting on a different machine.

I have noticed something strange, probably in the bios settings of one computer I had contact with recently. It resisted all attempts to load an operating system on an empty drive but loading an operating system with a different machine and then reinstalling the drive in the original it accepted the new operating system without any further hitches.

Another thing to think about was the time we tried to take a look at a hard drive and all my friend's machines refused to read it.
It turned out his machines had 32 bit operating systems and the fresh hard drive was on 64 bit.

Snowy screen on my lenovo

You have the 'snowy screen' option enabled. If you press the Fn key down, and tap on the S and C key, Santa Claus will dance across the screen............
You gonna' believe that? lol!
You need to diagnose. However the problem is a loose connection of Video Cable.
Loose at motherboard side, or LCD screen side. Could be Video Cable is damaged also. (Stretched/Broken wires)
What is the model number? It's on the bottom of the laptop. I should be able to get you the link to the HMM. (Free) (Hardware Maintenance Manual)
Then if you wish I can step by step guide you, through the diagnostic procedures, and disassembly required to access both connections, of Video Cable.
Also can guide diagnosing through a diagnostic flowchart

A) Let's discuss why you performed a System Restore in the first place.

1) Screen resolution seemed to be messed up?

2) Thought you picked up a virus?

3) Will Biff from Back to the Future, ever find true love?

NO...............just wanted to see if you were following along, lol!

Suggest you go to Display Properties, and see what the Screen Resolution is.

Right-click on an empty area of your desktop screen> Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list > Left-click on the Settings tab.

Screen resolution should be 1280 X 768
Use the slider to adjust it.

Color quality should be -> Highest (32 bit)

If you adjust either one (Or both), go to the bottom right, and click on Apply, then to the bottom left; and click on OK.

You also don't say how you installed the Applications, particularly if any of them were downloaded from the internet. If so, the download might have been, corrupt, incomplete or malware infected. Another potential source of corruption to System Files are corrupt, incomplete Updates downloads or interrupted Updates configuration processes.

It would appear that there has been some corruption to your Windows 7 64-Bit System Files.

The first issue to consider is whether all the Applications installed are 64 Bit or 64 Bit compatible. If not, uninstall the applications, but first you have to resolve the problem.

I suggest:

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > Restore my computer to an earlier time > select a highlighted date on the calendar to the left and an event in the event schedule to the right that both precede the error > Restore > Restart PC.

You can only safely install MS Office from a genuine MS Office Disc or download it from an Authorised Access, Multi-user Licensed ISO File on an office server. FTP Client Applications are the same. Safe, reputable, reliable online download sources abound, such as

If System Restore does not clear the problem and any applications were downloaded from the web, try running antivirus and antispyware scans to purge any infection found.

If none of the above works you might have to Restore to Factory Default Settings and install your Applications carefully again.

A bit of citus soda was spillied in the top right speaker while the laptop was on and then it just shut off. Now the laptop won't start up ...the vaio screen sometimes just flashes once and then the screen...

Since that water is spilled inside the Computer, please do not turn it ON or connect to the AC Power. This will cause serious Hardware damages in the Computer. I would recommend that you contact Sony Service Center to repair the Computer immediately.

Video artifacts during boot

It's related to either the lcd video cable and or the lcd.and or the gpu. I'd say in that order.

NOT the inverter. The inverter only controls screen brightness.

It sound like the screen is going bad try to hook it up to and external monitor and see if you have a clear picture if you do it could be a loose connection between the case and the Lcd or the inverter may be failing if y know how check it your self here is a link to a site that will show you how

Acer 3680 will not boot up.

try to boot in safe mode, if you can then from there try to remove the latest software or hardware you install.
if you are unable to boot in safe mode, then try to repair or reinstall the os.
plz post your findings
