Please try to update your driver for sound. If your OS is Vista, please go to Start-Control Panel-Classic View-Device Manager. Please click on the Sound, Game and Video Controllers. Select the one for the sound then go to properties-driver tab-uninstall. Then restart your laptop. Check if the sound got better.
If this does not work, please go back to the driver tab then click on update driver. Please be connected to the internet in order for this to be done.
Hope this helps. Thank you.

Laptop screen fades in out

I also experience the same thing with my Asus netbook. It seems a common issue or a bug. I fixed mine by resetting the connection between the LCD and the motherboard. If you don't know how to open your computer, then I suggest that you get it serviced.

Inspiron 1000 doesn't save cmos settings

Hi

As you said that you haven't used the computer for long time then it could be the motherboard which has gone faulty not the HDD or DVD.
Try to use the new HDD with this old motherboard.
Or else you can seek help of Any Geek Squad or computer vendor.

In case if you have any more trouble do contact back in Fixya.
Thank you

I Turn it on, but the monitor do not light up, all you can see is Miscrosoft Windows fade in the screen. When I tried to reinstall the origal software, it won't take it. linnymorris@yahoo.com

the backlight in your monitor could be gone if you can still see stuff but very very dim could be your inverter board has gone or maybe your lcd monitor somehow wiggled out of inverter board
if this is the case inverter boards are cheap and surprisingly easy to install

What is the bios password for an acer aspire 5100

It sounds to me like it was set by someone other than yourself. There is no legal way to reset the BIOS password. You can contact the person who set it, call Acer for service, or if you bought this from someone, return it.
If you set it, try to remember what it was.

My screen lighting seems to be not as bright as it used to be.

I'm going to presume you've gone through all your settings to make sure nothing changed. If you haven't, you can do this by going to 'display' in your control panel.
How long have you had the laptop for? LCD displays unfortunately do fade over time. The life of one is roughly 3-4 years. Lamps can be replaced - I'm not sure if this is cost effective for you, though. Your mileage may vary.
Hope this helps! Good luck.
