Hi nicoleashley You can send your camera to FUJI and pay $120 or you can try this at home for zip...it worked for me! I to have had focus error problem with my Fuji A310 camera and after much frustration and phone calls i decided to try a different approach to this problem........ I FORMATTED my 64mb XD card in my computer memory card reader using the FAT setting and guess what my camera is magically working now..... Why couldn't FUJI helpline have told me this when i spoke to them, answer because they were to preoccupied in trying to sell me a new camera!!!!!as if, there service is nonexistent and proven!!!!! Why is it called a HELPLINE then should rename it "FUJI RESELL LINE" hey....or maybe "FUJI NON HELPLINE" Also formatted 16mb card same way and working also, maybe i should get a job at FUJI hey only problem is i wouldn't endorse there products, very good picture quality in an unreliable package..suggest any better brand for next time nicoleashley ? ADDENDUM TO PREVIOUS SOLUTION FROM JIM PINEAPPLE--- After you have formatted the XD Card in your computer card reader reinstall card to camera and using the camera software format the card again, this prepares the card to accept it's normal data... P.S. I called the Fuji Ha Ha Helpline here in AUSTRALIA and informed them of this procedure so as to help all the poor souls like us that purchased our only Fuji digital camera, as if they didn't know already, and the moral of the story is as of 27-8-2007 Fuji would be absolute Mongrels to not inform via there helpline how to fix there very common "FOCUS ERROR" problem which is common across the Fuji digital camera range, just google FUJI FOCUS ERROR.... Happy Snapping JIM PINEAPPLE
Be sure you have formatted the card, not the internal memory (if the camera has that).
Be sure your battery is fully charged, so that the device can fuly write the file.
Be sure you are writing the file to the card, and not the internal memory, as there may not be enough space on it to write the file.
If this does not resolve the problem, let me know.

It's no problem at all to get them back. Please see this post for several free software that you can download. You'll need to use a card reader with these programs though:

Put the camera into play or review mode then hit the ok/menu button on back and format the card. This will erase all of your photos so make sure you've backed them up or download them.
SOURCE: flash won't pop up
Anyway if you are brave and handy you CAN fix this. First remove the back of the camera - 3 screws in battery bay, 1 in the side above the memory card door, The two rear most on the bottom, two in the USB/video door, and the rear most on the left hand carry strap bracket. Now take a look at the two screw holes under the flash (when popped - or flopped out now that is broken) now go and bend a screwdriver of the type you used for the previous screws - you will need a 90 degree bend very close to the tip to fit in this gap and be able to turn the screws a few degrees at at time. You can then slide the shaft out of the flash to release the spring which will have the end that should fit into the broken bracket now sitting proud.. Make a suitable U shaped bracket that will slide over the broken plastic bracket and drill a tiny hole in the side where the spring will clip in. . Getting the spring back in is a fiddly job - I found the best way was to fit the end of the spring into the new bracket, slide the shaft just into the spring - the lever the other end of the spring down into the back of the flash body and then slide the shaft all the way into place. I did have to file down the little plastic "blade" inside the lid which presumably is designed to assist the the (now broken) bracket from breaking....
Carefully prise the back rearward about 5 to 8 mm.
A little at a time lock the screwdriver into the screws and undo until the flash cover comes off.
make sure it fits really well and then epoxy into position.
reverse the dis-assembly and now you should have a working flash
