Brother mfc 9429cn

My printer makes a HORRIBLE noise when i turn it on (this started about a month ago) and the color copies all have horizontal lines in them. a tech is suppose to call me tomorrow to troubleshoot and the word OPC belt was mentioned. fyi- i got the printer in march '07. what is the OPC belt, should it be having problems already? oh, and i am not getting any error messages at all. it just makes the noise until it's done warming up and then every time i make a copy. the noise changed a little yesterday when i turned it on the let the phone person hear the noise. it sounds like its going to stop working any moment.....

We had a similar problem, OPC belt was used up before its allegded quoted life - but talking to brother technical department who were quite helpful. They say the OPC images if for every image produced if you do colour then it uses five images per print. I argued this was a bit misleading on their blurb. Which they did admit to, offered me a discount for buying off them direct only by cheque though. It was best price by about £8. Ours is only a year old so now has cost another £210 for opc belt. Noise now it makes we have been advised it is fuser unit - another large expense for a small business. But has anyone got a specific manual for proper maintenance - must be an engineers copy available - as the user manual says nothing very interesting at all.
ps Brother sales /technical guys did admit to me that part of the reasons for this models discontinued was the high cost of replacement parts /toner and the fact it does not print if any of the toners run out - not even if you reset to mono. Bad design, overstated advertising information.

We have two of these printers, they seem tohave a problem with the opc belt drifting to one side, insist they swap it before its out a warranty, the next problem you will have is the fuser unit which will start to make a noise and jam prints, again this has happened with both my printers, they are both destined for the scrap heap at 18 months old as brother want nearly as much for the fuser as they do for the printer

Brother MFC-440CN - print quality terrible, almost non-existent in spite of many cleaning operations.

It sounds like the printhead needs to be replaced. Brother may cover the cost of repair if you call them at 877-276-8437 and tell them the prints are "missing black ink". Very common problem that a new printhead should fix.

Well, this is a common problem with people who purchase Brother printers, but do not always use Brother Ink Cartridges. Brother has a cleaning agent in the print cartridge and the compatibles do not.

"If you have a lack of one (or more) color do the following:

Make sure all carts are full, placed well and are secured. Insert a new ORIGINAL BROTHER CART for the one that shows no color.

Press menu then start bk-copy then four times arrow up quick after another. machine will switch into maintenance mode and all lights will flash. Press 7 then 6 then 4 then start bk-copy. machine will initialize the carts and refresh ink within tubes and print head. After that it does some power cleaning. When finished press 7 then 6 then 3 then start bk-copy. machine will run a power purge. when finished press 9 then 9 to leave the maintenance mode. do run a quality test print.

This should clean the lines out and clear up your issue.

This solution is unconventional but it worked for me. The black roller on my MFC had irregularities on it and was creating horrible printouts. I pulled out the drum and cartridge and cleaned the large black roller. I used furniture polish to make the roller very smooth. Now it prints really nice.

Hello - my Brother DCP 330C printer is printing horizontal faded lines on both color and Black and white copies. I have changed the toner in all areas but still no change. Could the problem be with the...

I have a brother MFC 3240C. My Black ink stopped printing(initially printed horizontal faded lines and gradually got worse), the other colors were printing fine. I tried cleaning numerous time( 50 -100 times over 1-2 weeks ). Still no improvement. The way I print now is:
1. I go to Printer Properties
2. Change Media type from "Plain Paper" to "Inkjet Paper".
3. Change Quality to "Photo".

This takes a long time to print 1-2 minutes per page. However, this works for me since this is my Home printer and use it for printing only few pages here are there.

Good Luck

Brother mfc8440 clicking sounds while printing

I had the same problem when I used a refurb toner cartridge, had to replace cartridge with oem for it to print. After a while started making same noise, had to take it in to have parts replaced. Now I don't take any chances on non-oem parts, it's not worth it.

Brother MFC - 7420: Paper will not feed!

Does it make the same sound if you feed the single sheet through the bypass with the paper drawer removed? I hate to say it, but your printer's paper feed mechanism may need replaced. Go to http://www.brother-usa.com/AskUs/default.aspx and ask Brother to diagnose this one; I think they'll confer with me and should be able to point you to a nearby Brother-authorized repair center. Let me know what happens!
