Tefal Pro Express GV 8120 Iron Logo
Posted on Jun 14, 2011

I have a Tefal Pro Express Turbo iron (purchased in 2005). In the past 2 days the steam is constantly on - the button does not appear to be stuck. I can't get the steam to stop... unless I take out all the water - but the electricity cord gets extremely hot to touch. Is this a common fault, or could it be failing because of its age? Help!

Yes, if your electric cord was extremely hot to touch is not common. It's posing danger to your unit and to your entire electrical system that may cause fire. Please let a qualified electrician inspect and repair your unit. The unit thermal fuse may not functioning that automatically switch off or cut the electric power of your unit when it gets too hot. Thank you for asking.

I've been given a Tefal Pro Express Care Iron but I can't remove the Anti-Calc collector.

Question edited for clarity, it is a 'Tefal' not a 'teal pro'.

If it breaks, you can buy another, but descale the inside with CLR or a proper descaling solution.

I have a tefal pro express turbo GV8150 and there is constant team coming from iron without me touching the steam button. Can anyone help with a diagnosis and or possible fix?

constant steam means the control valve is not working
descaling may fix the problem
the other fix is a new iron as the cost to repair is generally more that a replacement price

The iron has been all descaled, however we cannot get any steam when pressing the button. It is a Tefal express generator model 3 years old.

Once you have descaled the boiler and refilled your frontpiece of the iron itself (hopefully with distilled water - any supermarket) you press the "reset"/ "restart" button on the back end of the steam generating unit. When the water is hot enough press steam button & turbo button a few times - WARNING: make sure iron is facing downwards and cover ironing board with old rag because initially brown steam splatter will come out on first few steam releases.

Tefal Pro Express - Constant Steam (Model 2932)

Great answer from Jacquief above. To which I add try giving the base of the iron and its button, a very light tapping with a tack hammer (much smaller and lighter than a standard hammer) wrapped in a tea-towel. This can often break up the lime scale seal which has formed somewhere inside and is not responding to Jacquief's method. In future never use scale laden tap water in your iron, use $2 litre bottles of distilled water from any supermarket.

Tefal Pro Express - Constant Steam

Found this on another site and just tried it. Put 50/50 water and vinegar in the tank and leave it to go through on the constant steam. Give it about 5 minutes then try the button. Mine gave an extra spurt of steam at this point but still continued giving steam out all the time. I refilled with the water vinegar mix and just kept pressing the steam button and letting it go through. Eventually it fixed it and the constant steam stopped. Something to do with a piece of limescale blocking the solenoid but that's all Greek to me! Hope this helps. Kind regards.
