Check your needle and make sure that you put it in the right way. You should have the flat side of it to the back.

ChaMy pfaff 2144 will not stitch properly; pools masses of bobbin thread; Changed thread, tensions, needle etc still wont sew, please advise as I am so desperate to fix this problem

bunching of thread under material is a needle tension problem
tighten it up
proper tension is when it requires a small amount of effort to pull the thread through the needle eye

How to thread bobbin 451 Pfaff

Having difficulty even locating a photo of the 451. Assuming this is an older model, perhaps this manual will help. It says its also for the 551, so perhaps the model is close enough that it will help you with your machine:

If you are unable to figure out the bobbin winder, you may be able to use a standalone bobbin winder (one brand is called Sidewinder) from the fabric store. They run ~$25-30. Just be sure to bring a bobbin with you to check the fit.

Hi I ahve a Bernina H70 model and I've been working for hours trying to thread the bobbin so the top thread picks up the bobbin thread...help!

make sure the presser foot is at it's hightest position, then thread the top
of the machine
change the needle
make sure the bobbin is not over full
that it is turned the right way in the bobbin case
if none of these suggestions work,,it is also possible that the machne is
out of time & needs to be checked at a repair shop

here's a link for a manual

try changing the needle

try rethreading the machine top & bobbin, make sure to get every thread guide
make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly in the bobbin case

You may have a different weight thread in your bobbin and your need may be wrong for your project. Check your manual or call Pfaff.

How do I adjust the timing on a pfaff industrial 545?it will not pick up the bobbin thread at all.

This happened to me. Shucks, I had the wrong needle in; it was too short to reach the bobbin thread and pick it up. Installed correct needle (repair man did) and viola. . .

Pfaff 260 bobbin thread not picking up

Hi. This can be terribly frustrating, but the most likely cause for the bobbin thread not catching is that the needle is inserted wrong. There is a flat side on the shank of every needle and that has to be facing a specific way on your machine or the needle's grooves can't make the stitch. On most modern machines, it's my experience that the flat side goes to the rear, facing away from the operator, but some of my older machines need the flat side facing to the left or to the right.

Another thing that can cause the bobbin thread not to pick up is a bent needle, but in my experience it's usually the needle not in correctly.

(Cost me $85.00 to find this out!)

Let me know if this works, ok?

Happy Sewing!

The threaded needle will not pick up the bobbin thread. It seemed to be in perfect shape when last I used the machine, a Pfaff Tiptronic, but now, suddenly, it will now work. The threading of the bobbin...

Hi, here is a few suggestion...........

A few suggestions:
  1. Re-thread top of machine from scratch with the presser foot raised, i.e. remove thread completely from all thread guides & paths and start from scratch, making sure thread is securely seated between tension disks. Once the needle is re-threaded, lower the presser foot and give the tail end of the thread a tug to make sure there's tension on it.
  2. Make sure the bobbin is turning the correct direction for your machine - and that the thread tail is under the tension plate or bobbin tension guide (depending on machine).
  3. Blow out any fuzz.
  4. Insert a new needle, making sure needle is pushed all the way up.
  5. Oil machine (in locations recommended in your owner's manual).
If the basic cleaning and re-threading (above) don't help, your machine(s) may be out of time or have another mechanical issue that will require a repair technician. We recommend a tech trained on your specific brands - they'll be better trained and able to get any repair parts that may be needed.

Take care

Needle will not pick up thread from bobbin

Was the old needle picking up the bobbin thread ok? If it was, then there's nothing wrong with the machine. Check that the needle is inserted correctly--there's a flat side on the shank of the needle and where that goes varies widely by machine. Then check that it's threaded properly.

(I once had my needle in backwards and threaded wrong--took the machine to the shop cause I was sure my baby was broken. Cost me $85.00 to find out that on that particular machine the flat side of the needle faces left!)

Let me know if this helps!
