Question about Kenmore Refrigerators

1 Answer

Appliance installation I am a women but quite handy. I need information on how to install a refrigerator with icemaker, electric range, and dishwasher. Will the range come with the plug attached? If not, how difficult a job is it to attach? I did reattach the copper water tube to my old refrig after remodel. Hopefully, I can do the same with the new one. Do you foresee any potential problems? How simple is it to hook up the dishwasher? These are all replacement appliances. There should be no plumbing or electrical issues, just the hookup. I would appreciate any advice. Installation runs $340.00 and because I am a single mom I try to do as much as I can to save money. I am the female handyman of my house. I need your opinion as to whether or not you believe a beginner could do this. I have changed locksets, done tile work, built furniture, changed outlets and lightfixtures===to give you some idea of my skill level. If you recommend simply to hire a professional, I'll assume it's over my head. THANKYOU. Patti

You can hookup the dryer no problem.... and the fridge as well.
the dishwasher may be a little more complicated but i will explain it to you and you can judge for yourself.

I will start with the stove.
1.On the back panel of the stove there will be a small 6inX3in panel with a screw holding it in place.
2.You will need to remove the screw.
3.Once this is done you will see a black box with 3 either screws or bolts with nuts on them.
4.You will need to remove the screws or nuts.
5.You will probably get a dryer cord that has a green, white, red, and black wire it.
6.You will need to take the white wire and put it in the middle connection. will need to take the red wire and connect it to the left side connection.
8. You will need to take the black wire and connect it to the right connection.
(make sure all the screws and or bolts are secure.)
9.take the green wire and you will connect this to the back of the stove using the green screw or the screw that hold the panel in place. (Put the panel back in place, take the wire and put the screw through the opening in the wire and screw back to the panel to hold the panel and wire in place)
10.plug the stove in.

now for the fridge.
1.on your copper line there should be a end on it that will screw on to the water pump on the fridge.
2.take some teflon tape and rape the threads of the pump where the line will connect. (make sure you wrap the threads in clock wise.)
3.connect the line making sure it is secure.
4. turn the water on to the fridge.

now the dishwasher.
1. you will need to connect the water input lines. i would use teflon on the connection to make sure it does not leak.
2.connect the drain.
3.connect the wireing.
make sure that the breaker is off when you do this.
you will need to color match the wires. there should be a black, white and red wire. once this is done turn the breaker back on and run your dishwasher through a cycle to make sure it works correctly.

you will be done. please use the direction for the dishwasher at your own discretion but do please be CAREFUL.

please do not forget to rate and comment about your experience with fixya. Have a good day.

Appliance Repair Meridian - GE Profile Refrigerator not cooling

If your refrigerator is not getting cold but your freezer is freezing fine there's a good chance the evaporator is frosted up or the evaporator fan isn't working. Pull the back panel from the inside of the freezer and examine the evap coils for heavy frost buildup. If that's the case, there's a heater assembly screwed on at the bottom of the evaporator. Unscrew and ohm it out. This go bad quite regularly for me and can save you money by doing it yourself.

Sounds like it could be an issue with the compressor. I recommend bringing it to a refrigeration / small appliance shop and have them take a look.
That being said it could be the start cap or the relay on the compressor. Worst case the whole compressor may need to be replaced. This repair could range from $60 - $500 depending on which.
If you are particularly handy and have a voltmeter available I would press them on the phone for a copy of the service manual for this unit. Inside there should be instructions for checking the electrical portion of the compressor. For anything more in depth you'll need a licensed refrigeration tech.
Also be careful when working with electrical components, especially capacitors. If you are not experienced with such things I wouldn't recommend taking this part on yourself.
    Good Luck!

Ice maker quit water line works intermittingly

icemaker quite? hire a new icemaker. industry joke sorry.
First things first, is it cooling ok? if yes then proceed.
im assuming it stopped making ice altogether, and not a matter of making ice but not dispensing.

If your ice bucket is located in the door itself, you have an electric eye icemaker system, which electronically determines if the bucket is full or not. this electric eye system, located on both side walls of freezer, consist of a transmitter board and a receiver board. you could have a problem with these boards, the icemaker itself, a bad water valve, or depending on the model year, a icemaker fill line that can get clogged with ice, but due to a faulty design, a fill tube heater must be installed.

if your bucket is not in the door, but located directly beneath the icemaker, then disregard the electric eye system info and the fill tube heater info as well.

To install electric stove ...what is the recommended and required amps number

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR APPLIANCE before beginning any service procedure.
Most of the electric ranges have either a 3 prong or a 4 prong gray electric cord that usually has a 220 plug, follow the color wires and match them to the wiring panel in back of the range. I am not sure on the amps, you may want to check with your local appliance dealer and also the customer’s owner’s manual, so check on the plug in the wall and then purchase the correct plug according to the number of prongs in the outlet and once installed level the range with the leveling legs. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local appliance dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions. You did not give me a brand name or model # so check with the silver tag on the actual appliance and sometimes that will tell you the number of amps.
Thanks, Don – The Appliance Man
