Rriverra311,
An LCD screen cannot produce enough light by itself. It needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.
A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.\
Very similar to the fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.
[Sizes and shapes vary for a Backlight, but average is the diameter of a small straw, and the length of a cigarette]
An Inverter is used to alter the voltage coming from the laptop, to be used by the LCD screen, and the Backlight.
(They both require different voltages. Simplified statement)
90 PERCENT of the time the fault is the Inverter.
With an Asus Eee PC 1005HAB Netbook, the Backlight is not changed as a unit. The entire LCD screen assembly is replaced.
[An LCD screen is a composite of layers. These layers are held in place by a metal frame.
Placement of the Backlight varies from LCD screen manufacturer, to LCD screen manufacturer.
It may be located on the side of the layers, or behind them.
Sometimes it may be interposed along with two of the layers, on the side of the layers.
Opening the metal frame leaves the LCD screen layers loose. They MUST be kept in the same position as they were installed.
This leads to it being a technical job.
This is why the LCD screen is normally replaced as a unit with these models. The price also.
One example,

(I have seen them listed for as low as $59]
This is one example of an Inverter for sale, for an Asus Eee PC 1005HAB laptop, (Netbook actually),
http://www.batterycentury.com/asus-eee-pc-1005hab-inverter-p-184845.html
The Inverter MUST match THE LCD screen in the laptop.
Go by the manufacturer and part number of the LCD screen in the laptop.
(On the back of the LCD screen is the manufacturer initials, and part number)

(The Eee PC 1008HA is very close to the 1005HAB)
This information may help although this is not a 1005HAB,

1) Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter (Charger) and Battery.
2) Observe Anti-Static Precautions
3) Use a multi-compartment container for the various screws that will be removed. (Just the Display Assembly)
Label each compartment for the area the screw/s came out of.
You can use a clean egg carton in a pinch. Label each egg holder.
Awaiting additional questions.
Please post in a Comment.

This is caused by a dead backlight and video inverter. These are relatively cheap to replace and it only requires the display be opened and one is a plug in card and the other is a picture tube type lamp that projects the backlight portion of the LCD, which in turn enables you to actually see what is on the display. Take it to any descent computer guy and it should cost no more than $60.00 to fix. Let me know if you require additional information..
