Question about KitchenAid Dishwashers

KitchenAid dishwasher is dead

I have a Kitchenaid dishwasher model KUDS011JBS0. Two days ago whenthe dishwasher was running normally it shut off with no power lightswhat so ever on the front panel. The circuit breaker did not trip andis turned ON. The dishwater is still dead when I push any of thebuttons on the front panel.

I am looking for a service repairmanual so I can troubleshoot the unit but I need to know how it iswired. I don't know if it has an internal fuse or circuit breaker.

Several months ago I had a microwave problem and I found the answer onFixya.com and I have passed that answer on to many other Fixya people. Hopefully I can get help again.

Can you please help me? Thanks very much.

I have checked the small micro switch with an ohmmeter that is operated by the door latch and the switch is good. I have 123 Volts at the input to what I believe to be the controller board which has 3 Potter & Brumfield relays among other components.

  • Bill Artman Aug 21, 2008

I wanted to clarify - Regardless of what front panel buttons I push there are no lights on the panel that light even though I have 123 volts at the input of the controller circuit board which is in the right top of the door.

    Thanks!

Thanks for your suggestions but I still need additional help. The dishwasher front panel has no error codes showing and when I push any button there are no lights showing.

  • Bill Artman Aug 21, 2008

If I have 123 volts at the input to the controller circuit board but no error codes or lights on the front door panel regardless of the buttons I push what are the chances that the controller circuit board is bad? A new board is about $100 so I would like to pretty sure it is bad before I buy a new board. Is there any troubleshooting that I can do. I am very technically inclined.

I have located the TCO thermal fuse and tested it with an ohmmeter. The fuse appears to be open and bad. Can you use an ohmmeter to test this fuse?

    Thanks

  • Bill Artman Aug 23, 2008

The thermal fuse was bad - when I replaced it the dishwasher started working again. I used the Premium Support Service and the Fixya.com experts suggested the fuse and also told me where to locate it on the dishwasher.

Click here to find more troubleshooting info.
Once you get access to the control panel board inspect the solder joints from the relays and connectors if the thermal fuse is good.

You can use the ohmmeter to test the TCO thermal fuses.

Just for testing purposes you can use any other fuse with the same ratings as the bad one. If the device powers up, remove that fuse and order the proper thermal fuse.

    Good luck.

After all suggestions and still experiencing the problem and if your machine is still on warranty then send it back to their shop. they have tools and equipments for replacing some parts of your dishwasher. its better to become safe than risky. hope that helps sir.

I cannot find the exact schematic diagram for your dishwasher but most often the power supply input on the unit itself has a fuse attached to it to prevent power surges from burning out the board. You could check that.

Your dishwasher does not display anything on the front panel anylonger hence no power input. Most likely its a fuse on the units power supply. If you are not comfortable with working within the unit to check it. I would suggest you take it in for repair or have it serviced in your home. You said you measured your input and it comes out at 123V that means that there is an overload which might have caused a blown fuse

Well if power is coming into the board then the board is shot. If there is no power then check the power supply of the unit. A dishwasher is a bit simple there are only 2 things 1 power 2 board the rest are just controlled by the board if there is no power then the problem is with the board and so forth

Ok good you can test it with an ohmmeter the guide to the link below is for a multitester but its the ohmmeter function that you need anyhow so just base it on that

I am clueless too, no machine I know of communicates in "knocks." There are some models that have a diverter disc that rotates, some have drain pumps that operate at certain times... have you tried to determine if the noise is under the machine or inside of it? remove the bottom panel and see if it changes the character of the noise...

Dishwasher motor starts and stops

Hey Bill,
Not professing to be any kind of a dishwasher repairman but I have had a similar issue with the start and stop thing and it turned out to be the timer motor had started to go, and in going it 'burned' a couple of sets of the contacts as well. Check with a local appliance repair centre and see first if they agree with me, and if they have anyone who can rebuild the timer - Typically not too hard to get access to and remove - In my case in Canada, it had to go to Toronto pre-paid but $70 was cheaper then a new dishwasher and it's worked great for years

How do you reset a KitchenAid dishwasher model: KUDE70FXSS4?

Press High Temp Scrub and Dry Heat option buttons in quick succession one after the other for about 6 sec until all the lights come on. Then press Cancel button. This should reset the dishwasher. Press equivalent buttons on the panel if the actual ones above are not there.
Make sure the dishwasher detergent dispenser lid is shut and the dishwasher door is shut before you start the above reset sequence.

Hi

If you have replaced the control panel then it is the electronic control board that is bad and should be replaced. If you have replaced the electronic control board then check the door latch, it can be due to the latch & control not operating. Hope this helps...please post back with its model no. for further assistance.

First and foremost, check the dooe switch to see if it is functioning properly.
