1.Press and hold the Multifunction button in the middle of a boom headset while the headset is closed. The light will glow blue.2.Open the boom microphone and the blue light should remain on. If not, repeat step 1. 3.On the cell phone, press Menu > Settings > Connection > Bluetooth > Handsfree > New Device 4.Select HS850 once a connection is detected. 5.The passkey "0000" is now entered to confirm the connection has been made. 6.The cell phone screen will now read "Bluetooth Connection".
Tips: 1.Provided you set the Bluetooth power to "On" after the initial connection has been made, the phone will automatically re-connect to the headset. 2.To set the Bluetooth power on - Press Menu, Select Settings, then Connections, then Bluetooth link, scroll to Setup and select that. Scroll to Power and chose Change. Scroll to On and press Select. The screen should now read "Changed: Power On". 3.Test Your Connection: Close the headset and watch for cell phone to say "Disconnected". Re-open the headset and the phone should be connected automatically and will now display "Bluetooth Connected".

I bought a new HS850 and guess what, I got this hearing problem on the very first day ...phew ! I did the pairing with my Motorola A1200 phone and it worked for once, even the sound was coming in the earpiece and then I put it to charge for the first time and once done, I again started it up and it got connected with the phone and after that there was no sound in the ear piece. I was going nuts....about what could be the problem.
So i decided to delete the earlier paired profile from my phone and do the pairing again and guess what...It Worked....:) So you can try that out too....
perhaps it is in "mute mode" which can be activated on the headset itself by simultaneously pressing both the up and down volume buttons.
Also, have you tried deleting the device from the phone you are using before you pair it up again?
finally is there any firmware/software update available for the phone? This can be the case frequently with bluetooth problems with Blackberry devices (I know this from painful experience with this same headset).
You did not say what phone you are using but I found that this problem went away for me when I changed a setting on my blackberry.
I turned "encryption" off in the bluetooth settings on my blackberry 7100t and solved the echo problem.
Alternatively, there might be a "compression" setting also. This one made no difference for me but might for you on your device.
Also, make sure any firmware or software updates for your phone have been applied. On blackberry devices you do this via a PC. On cell phones it usually involves a reset or update from some buried menu options or call to their tech support.
Have U tried re-link them?
Turn off both device. Then switch the cell phone on first and check if the bluetooth is on. Then link it with the bluetooth. If you lost the manual, search online on the steps to do the linking. Cell phone should be able to detect the bluetooth and finally link with it.
