Applications Intallation window did not run

I just bought a WD mybook essential edition hard drive and plugged it into my mac book and the installation window did not appear. The my book icon appeared on my desktop and I am able to transfer files to it, but I know there should have been some sort of installation....there is a setup.exe file on the my book but when i click it there is no application specified to run it.

My Digital MyBook is not recognized in My Computer or Disk management.

Download a program called discovery from WD, it is free. When installed, plug in the drive and run the discovery program. Your drive should work properly.

Notebook does not recognize My Book / Western Digital hard drive

Did it ever work?

Connect the MyBook to a different desktop computer.
If it is not recognized, then the MyBook definitely has a problem.
Exercise the warranty to get it repaired/replaced,
or check W.D.'s "Customer Loyalty" program -- buy a new W.D. drive through W.D.'s web-site, and get a discount.

Connected but not detected?

Hi, You need to run updates for your computer. Go to start, program, windows update, run and install all the updates, look especially for any update for hardware, select it and let it install. Leave the My book attached to the computer while searching for updates. Good luck.

Wd My book, mac and windows

Plug it into your mac, open "Disk Utility" select your Hard Drive in the list to the side, click "RAID" change the Volume Format to MS-DOS (FAT). Now unplug it, plug it into your PC, open "My Computer" right click your Hard Drive and click "Format" change to FAT(it might be FAT 32, or something else). Click "Format." This should work.
hope it helps!

WD My Book Essential -- Can't find drivers

It should not really need drivers in Win2K or Vista, you might have a problem with your USB drivers. Go into device manager, remove any devices under the USB heading and reboot. All the drivers should reinstall and hopefully your MyBook will come alive again. Otherwise, try the MyBook on a friend's computer, if it doesn't work there then the MyBook may be faulty itself.
