How do I test the defrost thermostat?

Defrost thermostat is a temp control. To test it, it would need to be in ice water. When cold it is a closed switch or contacts (checked with a multimeter. When it gets above 50--55 degrees it will open the contacts. Another way, unplug refrigerator----safely hook a jumper wire across the thermostat leads by passing the thermostat and then put the refrigerator in defrost. If heater comes on the thermostat is probably bad. If still no defrost--- you may have burned out heaters. Once done testing this way make sure you remove jumper and tape all wires for a safe connection.

Fan not working .water collecting in the fridge and build up of ice in both

The fan may have stopped working due to the build up of ice on the evaporator coil in the freezer. The most likely cause would either be a burnt out defrost heater or a bad defrost timer. Normally the defrost timer turns the heater on for about 30 minutes every 8 hours to melt the ice on the coil. If the timer fails it will either stay in cooling mode or defrost mode. The timer is usually located in the temperature control box in the refrigerator. It looks something like this:

slamfix_55.jpg On the side of the timer is a small cam that you can turn with a flat screwdriver. With the refrigerator plugged in, turn the cam until it clicks. When it clicks, it should be in defrost mode and the heater should start to get warm and melt the ice. You should be able to hear the ice crackling and hissing if the heater is working. If it does nothing then the problem is probally due to a burn out heater.

To get to the heater, you will need to remove the back panel from the freezer and the heater will be attached to the coil. You will need a hair dryer to melt the ice from the coil, to get to the heater. Parts can be found at your local appliance supply house or online at Hope this helps you.

Will not defrost

there is a heater in side the freezer, you need to change the heater, then you need to check all the wire clips and make sure all wire clips are tight and clean, loose wire clips will cause arching and burn out the heater

240554502 Adaptive Defrost Control Board

The next most likely is=> 5303918255 Defrost Heater and Video
Look for any signs of the adaptive defrost board having burn marks, not always show burn marks on back or front but if appears to look OK Try the vidieo tutorial in link below. Best return policy I have seen. Here=> 240554502 Defrost Control Board Kit

What if both sides of the refrigerator is not getting cold? And the back of the freezer side has frost.

Defrost problem. Either the defrost thermostat, defrost heater or defrost control board needs replacement. The defrost heater has to have continuity. The defrost thermostat has to have about 0 Ohms while it's cold. If both test out ok - replace defrost control board.
Part locations: Defrost heater and thermostat: under your frosted cover; control board - left upper corner of fresh food section, under the damper cover, in the middle.
Part numbers:
240554502 - control board
5303918255 - defrost heater kit
Can't find the part number for the defrost thermostat

Describe your Frigidaire FSC23R5DSB Side by Side Refrigerator Problem the refrigerator is not cooling

That is the first sign of not defrosting. Look into the rear panel in back of freezer and see if frost is forming on that back panel. If yes then you will need to unplug and remove that panel to inspect the defrost heater and defrost thermostat. If they check out then we need to inspect both sides of the mother control board for burn marks or signs of heat damage. The 1467835 Control Board is located on the back and enclosed inside a plastic housing. The same circuit board also list as part number 241511101 Check the freezer first to see if the defrost heater may be bad. Need an OHM meter and take one wire off of one end to test. I will walk you through this if you want, Sea Breeze

My side by side frigidare is barely blowing air and its not cold at all. what could it be?

Your problem most likely is the Adaptive defrost timer . Click here if you need one CLICK HERE=> Part Number 240554502 Adaptive Defrost Board
The next most likely reasons for this is a burned out defrost heater part number CLICK HERE=> PART NUMBER 5303918255 DEFROST HEATER KIT
Or the defrost thermostat and fan motor. All in that order. Let me know if this is helpful and please rate me. Thanks Sea Breeze

Frigidaire Model number frs26znh defrost not working?

The defrost systems is:
5303917954 TIMER-DEFROST

Start with the timer. It is just under the front kick plate. there is a knob you can turn it slowly.until it clicks off the compressor. then open the freezer and listen . You should hear the heater come on .. it will sizzle when it comes on ...

You will have to remove the back panel of the freezer to check the heater for and thermostat for continuity. Heater are the lease likely part to go bad... I always change thermostat and timers together.

let me know if this helps or we can chat if you need more help.
