Question about Citizen Watches

2 Answers

I have an old Citizen Aqualand dive watch, "c022-088034 y"- the battery has run out, Citizen report that the part is discontinued (citizen part number 280-5101). Is there a generic battery that can be used, or are these parts available elsewhere in the world? The watch is in Australia. I've had the bizarre conversation with them advising me that only Citizen can repair the watch, but won't becasue they don't have the part, but won't tell me what the part is!

The battery is a SR920SW. A 1.5V silver oxide. Available from Jaycar Electronics, catalogue part number SB-2534. Around $1.80 each.

You may find that the problem is not the batterys but some other part to do with the mechanisim.

This watch needs to be sent back to the factory to get the movement replaced. I am doing this for the second time in 4 years. Citizen Europe states it's a defective design. The watch goes into dive mode with sweat, humidity and washing your hands. The water sensor tells the computer it's gone diving but the pressure sensor isn't telling it the same thing which causes a fault with the computer. I was told to cover the water sensor with WAX by the factory repair facility. WAX on a $400 dive watch. Great. They shold have used the pressure sensor to initiate dive mode. Customer Service said it wasn't defective, so it was designed to need this part everytime the battery has to bre replace.

My citizen aqualand duplex watch has the word "chek" on the lower screen and it won't go away. What does this mean?

It turns to "chek" if the moisture sensor that triggers dive mode when you go in the water is exposed to water and you don't dive for more than an hour. The sensor is very easily triggered by sweat, so all you got to do is wipe the sensor between the crown and the upper right button with dry cloth and "chek" will go away.

You can get instructions from the Citizen web site.

Go to "citizen.com" and on the upper right there is a menu. Click on "technical support" and then on "setting instructions"

Fill in the information required from the back of your watch and then click on "get setting instructions"

I have a Citizen Aqualand Promaster 200M circa 1991 and the analog has stopped working. It was sent back to Citizen repair facility in CA last year and they said it cannot be repaired because movement is...

First of all they should be giving you explanation why the watch needs whole movement replacement and what is the cause.
As the watch movements are upgraded and made more sophisticated every year, some of them are discontinued and the next generation movements are replacing them. Watch manufacturing companies usually try to produce interchangeable movements, so, the newer one can replace the older.
In your case (if there is no newer version replacement) you have no option, but to shop around for exact new movement for replacement.
All you have to do is to find out your watch's movement number (that Citizen facility in CA should give that) and then shop for it. Plenty of movemevts on ebay, not to mention specialized watch part supplier companies. All available over the internet - just takes some time and nerve.

Old Citizen Divers watch

Found this on the web for fixing Citizen dive watches:
http://www.hurleyrobertsservice.com/v2/web/index.php

You can also buy new and older ones at Ebay.com and Nextag
for around 250 USD. Might be easier/cheaper than fixing old ones.
