I assume you don't have a System Recovery Partition? HP has Factory Recovery DVD's/CD's , if availible, try Support page: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Home.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=12454&prodSeriesId=3459240&lang=en&cc=us

File missing or corrupt

You could always use Ubuntu either temporarily or permanently. It's an Operating System based on GNU/Linux and is completely free, and in a lot of people's opinions it's better than Windows. You can set it up to run on a seperate partition and choose which OS to run at boot, or you can format the drive and just install Ubuntu which will automatically run at boot.

check it out here:
What is Ubuntu?
Read about it, get the free download, burn it to a CD-R and reboot to install. The installation is straight forward, and the new GUI in 9.10 is simple to learn for a new user. Most drivers are automatically configured if not all, already. :) Hope it helps

When putting the recovery disc in it will run a few minutes then say free disc error

Normally you want to boot the pc with the recovery disc in. Some recovery programs work best on boot up. If not check the cd to make sure it is not scratched. Also try it in another pc to rule out a bad cd-rom.

Hard deive / non-system errod when running recovery CD's

Hi,

My name is Armymason, have you thought about running a hardware diagnostic test? Do a search on the internet for a free one and check to see if the hard drive is bad.

Thanks,

Normally hp has a partition on the hard drive to recover windows. You need to check the software and see if thats built in. If not you should call hp and they can send you the recovery disk.

Factory image recovery on hp error 0x4001100200001005 when useing the recovery disk to go back to factory only loads up to 33%

I had the same problem with the recovery cd getting to 83% and giving me the 0x4001100200001005 error. I did 2 things. I cleaned the disk it was erroring on and also removed the ethernet cable from the adapter. I have been working for 4 days on this and parsing the internet for answers. Finally it worked. I don't know if it was the cleaning of the disk...which did not look dirty, or the unplugging the network cable.
