Question about Hitachi 60V500 60" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Getting close...thanks big Irish, Wow, thanks for helping me AGAIN!! Ok, the ballast does have voltage, in fact it will spark and even allow the lamp to turn on. But the whole set shuts off after just a moment. That is when the TEMP light will blink constantly. If the problem is the ballast...how does this affect the TEMP light? Or does is matter about the TEMP light? The blinking TEMP light is supposed to mean that the fan is locked or shorted...not the case here, both fans work fine. So...looks like ballast problem here?? Thank you...

Egear00; OK, you have voltage, check this:
1. Filters make sure both are clean
2. Check the power supply and check for bad CAP's
3. Check the lamp sensor.
Good Luck, big IRISH.

JVC DLP MOD#HD55G466 what is the voltage from power supply to ballast and into the lamp.I have no voltage to the lamp could it be ballast?

Hi,
Ballast board gets voltage from power supply connector CN90BL and volts readings are as follows:
Pin-1 = 380V DC
Pin-2 = Ground
Pin-3 = 15V DC
and output of ballast board would be 12,000 volts AC that goes to lamp to generate spark in its electrodes to produce high bright light.

If you get volts on input of ballast board but still lamp does not fire up then ballast board is not working.
Ballast board part number is QAL0765-001 and available with tv-part.com for $125
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

Tip

Lamp vs Ballast

This is to help explain the short lives of Lamps.

WARRANTY: If a lamp fails within the first year replace Lamp and Ballast.
If Lamp explodes do not replace Ballast only lamp, but if lamp didn’t explode replace both.

If you experience more than one Lamp failure within one year of use replace the Ballast.

The Panasonic Brand offers a Ballast repair kit (LSUC0022), it only works about 20% of the time.

I would not recommend this replacement kit. It will get you past the 30-45 day warranty period in most cases but it will not be the proper FIX to the customer’s unit and they will only call you back or (most important) call another Service Center.

I have experienced maybe 100 customers that had other Service Companies come out and only replace the Lamp. When the Lamp and Ballast should have been replaced.

I hope this helps the Customers and the Technicians in their judgment.

If I was redundant I apologize, just trying to help.

Good Day, big IRISH

KF42WE610 bad lamp... and ballast?

Hi,
DLP Lamp has electrodes inside and ballast generates high voltage that makes spark on these electrodes thus got high bright light. New lamp wont die due to bad ballast so replace lamp and see tv works or not.
This tv has self diagnostic feature, turn On tv and let it shut down, now check standby light that would be blinking in specific order, for example 3 or 4 times blink then pause for 3 seconds and again blinks.
Let me know how many times standby light blinking in this tv to help you with more info.
Thanks.

It keeps shutting off. Anywhere from 2 or 3 times

Could be several things. First replace lamp.Remove lamp door and put it back on making sure tab on door presses door switch downward when closed. Can you heard spinning noise from front. Bad color wheel will cause shutdown. Look at big cap on ballast . iff swollen replace lamp, ballast and power board. Is voltage to ballast from power board below 350 volts if so replace power board. hope this helps. Most common are lamp and door switch in up position rather than downward .

Projection lamp explodes 3 times in four years would you consider this a defective tv???

Howdy,
No, but the TV has a defective ballast. DLP TV's Lamps should on an average last at least 2 years. Any DLP Lamp that has a short life it is the ballast. Some are easy to replace, some are more difficult. Depening on Brand the cost will vary. I would recommend that you seek an Authorized Service Dealer and make you tell them about the lamp replacement history and of ballast.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

Samsung dlp acts as though the lamp is gone. Put

It may be the ballast or aother problem. First, unplug your TV for about 5 minutes, plug back in. LISTEN very carfully when you turn the TV on. (put ear on the left hand side of TV towards the back) if you hear a clicking sound. It may be your light engine. BUT most important what lights on front panel are blinking.

Hope this was helpful, Big Irish.

I have replaced the bulb but still it will not turn you can hear everything start up but it seems as not enough power to light the bulb help please I have a samsung DLP SP50L7HX it still shows the bulb...

Hi,Sometimes its something simple.Did you close the door cover,it has a switch that wont let lamp power on if its not pressed.Did you reset the lamp timer? you can do this by unplugging the tv wait 5 min and plug it back again.Any strange noises like clicking or buzzing sounds? If you heard clicking it will be an issue w the board that powers the lamp its called the ballast. If you heard buzzing it could be an issue with the color wheel, which is a small disc that creates tyhe colors on your tv. Last question did you get the Original Philips lamp or a generic? If you got a generic send it back for testing or get refund and get yourself the original.Email me if you have further questions at r2d2repair@gmail.com have a blessed life!

This chart shows were voltages are on the ballast. If you the voltages then suspect the ballast, if no voltage suspect the the power source.

Good Day, eger00;
Try this:

First, some clarification related to this Flowchart is necessary. The block which states * PSL #4 pin Voltage sequence is like below? a) high (3s) b) low (3s) c) high (15s) d) low (3s). This indicates seconds in which the ballast is attempting to light the Lamp. The Connector PSL is a very small connector that actually faces down with the ballast is installed. It is also very difficult to access. It's much easier to use the Spark Gap process for determining if the Ballast is attempting to fire up the Lamp. Take a look at the bottom of the flow chart below. If the Spark Gap sparks when trying to turn on the set, it's almost a guarantee that the ballast is working OK and it's the Lamp that's defective. Also, the LEDs on the front of the LCD will flash in sequence Left to right as this process is attempting to light the Lamp. The front LEDs doesn't guarantee that the ballast is functioning correctly, but it does indicate the System Control process for lighting the Lamp is working.
