Im trying to use the Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 1000 with my Dell Inspiron 1525. I have Windows 7 as the operating system. The reason why I am doing this instead of using the provided keys on my laptop is because they keys are broken. However, the keys on the keyboard perform different actions than that the key states. The delete button is the letter "G", and the "H" is volume down, etc. How can I fix this?

Disable inspiron 1525 keyboard

Step 1:
Dell sells technology such as computers, computer peripherals and consumer electronics to both consumers and businesses. Dell sells both wired and wireless keyboards and mice that are compatible with Dell and other computer systems. Dell wireless keyboards may encounter hardware, software or other problems under certain conditions.

Power Dell wireless keyboards transmit data to the Dell USB receiver, which in turn passes the data to the computer's operating system. The keyboard gets power from two AA batteries. As the batteries lose charge, the keyboard's transmissions can become intermittent. Replacing the old batteries with fresh ones will ensure consistent communication and resolve the power issue. b> Interference Dell wireless keyboards operate best and are least susceptible to interference when the user places them at the recommended distance from the USB receiver. The distance, specified in the keyboard's accompanying software or installation guide, varies by keyboard. Even if the user places the keyboard at the proper distance from the USB hub, metal objects between the keyboard and hub can create interference; moving objects that create the interference resolves the issue. b> Connection The Dell USB receiver that passes data from the keyboard to the computer requires proper and secure installation in a working USB port. If the receiver connects to the USB port improperly, or if the USB port to which the receiver is connected is faulty, the keyboard will not operate as expected. The user can reseat the receiver in the USB port, or connect to the receiver to a different, functioning USB port to resolve connection problems. b> Synchronization Dell wireless keyboards can broadcast at more than one frequency, just as their associated USB receivers do. If the two devices broadcast at different frequencies, they will not pass information to each other. The user can resolve this situation using the buttons labeled "Connect" on the top of the receiver and the bottom of the mouse. Pressing the buttons simultaneously triggers the synchronization process. b> System Dell wireless keyboards are compatible with most Dell systems. However, a keyboard may be incompatible with a given computer for reasons related to the computer rather than to the keyboard. To determine if this is the case, a user can connect the keyboard to a different computer. If the keyboard functions as expected with the second computer, the problem may reside in the first computer rather than in the keyboard.

Before reformatting the pc you must back up necessary files and applications that you might have. Because during the process all files would be deleted and pc would be back to its factory default. You may follow the steps below to reformat the pc.

appears, press <F8> several times to access
the Vista Advanced Boot Options Window.
2. Select Repair Your Computer.
3. The System Recovery Options window

local user. To access the command prompt,
type administrator in the User name
field, then click OK.

6. Click Dell Factory Image Restore. The Dell
Factory Image Restore welcome screen
appears.
NOTE: Depending upon your configuration,
you may need to select Dell Factory Tools,
then Dell Factory Image Restore.
7. Click Next. The Confirm Data Deletion
screen appears.
NOTICE: If you do not want to proceed with
Factory Image Restore, click Cancel.
8. Click the checkbox to confirm that you want

restoring the system software to the factory
condition, then click Next.
The restore process begins and may take
five or more minutes to complete. A message
appears when the operating system and
factory-installed applications have been
restored to factory condition.
9. Click Finish to reboot the system.
Operating System Reinstallation
Before you Begin
If you are considering reinstalling the Windows
operating system to correct a problem with a
newly installed driver, first try using Windows
Device Driver Rollback. If Device Driver Rollback
does not resolve the problem, then use System
Restore to return your operating system to the
operating state it was in before you installed
the new device driver. See "Using Microsoft
Windows System Restore" on page 38.
NOTICE: Before performing the installation,
back up all data files on your primary
hard drive. For conventional hard drive
configurations, the primary hard drive is the
first drive detected by the computer.
To reinstall Windows, you need the following
items:
• Dell Operating System media
• Dell Drivers and Utilities media
Restoring Your Operating System
NOTE: The Dell Drivers and Utilities media
contains drivers that were installed during
the assembly of the computer. Use the
Dell Drivers and Utilities media to load any
required drivers. Depending on the region
from which you ordered your computer, or
whether you requested the media, the Dell
Drivers and Utilities media and Operating
System media may not ship with your
computer.
Reinstalling Windows
The reinstallation process can take 1 to 2 hours
to complete. After you reinstall the operating
system, you must also reinstall the device
drivers, virus protection program, and other
software.
1. Save and close any open files and exit any
open programs.
2. Insert the Operating System disc.
3. Click Exit if the Install Windows message
appears.
4. Restart the computer.
5. When the DELL logo appears, press <F12>
immediately.
NOTE: If you wait too long and the
operating system logo appears, continue to
wait until you see the Microsoft® Windows®
desktop; then, shut down your computer
and try again.
NOTE: The next steps change the boot
sequence for one time only. On the next
start-up, the computer boots according to
the devices specified in the system setup
program.
6. When the boot device list appears, highlight
CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive and press <Enter>.
7. Press any key to Boot from CD-ROM.
Follow the instructions on the screen to
complete the installation.

This sounds like the dreaded Windows Vista Black Screen of Death (KSOD). you might have a bad hard drive, but even more likely some software or a driver is causing a problem and caused Vista to get stuck. The repair will not work. You might be able to run a complete repair from the Windows Vista CD, if you have one. If you are not too experienced, take it to a reputable computer service center. If you are at all technical and have time, google your problem and you will see thousands of similar users with same problems.

This is one reason Microsoft released Windows 7 so soon.
