If your TV still does not turn on after unplugging , then you will have to retry for a longer period of time. Try longer periods of time such as overnight. And you must unplug the monitor from all connections that can supply power to the TV. It is recommended to remove all connections. If still not working, then it maybe a loose contact or cold solder.
Cold solder issues - each component is soldered into small holes on the printed circuit board which in turn connects said component to the other components. Due to time, heat, use, some solder joints would be cracked or loose. It is possible that the cold solder is still minimally connected (hanging by a thread). When the TV turns on heat would be generated which would be sufficient to further loosen up the solder joint to the point it no longer provides electrical contact. Jarring the unit creates movement inside enough to re establish the contact, sometime good enough sometimes not enough.

Again, since the unit still operates (sometimes) then it is highly probable that there are no defective components. As you have surmised, it is possibly a loose connection, solder joints are "connections" except that molten soldering lead is used to attach/connect the component to the board, "loose connection" in this sense is equal to "cold solder".

Again on the assumption of no defective parts, then seeking a more experienced buddy for the soldering might be to your advantage. This is of course in addition to the possible electrical hazards when repairing....

Good luck:

My tv screen is blaock and it has a blue line running a cross it. Usually when this happen I hit the side one time and my screen comes back but now its not. The model no to my tv is PC-4520

What ever you do, do NOT hit electronics, even if it seems to make them work, it will only have it working for a bit till it stops working again.

When you hit it, you are most likely getting a connector back into its socket. If you have warranty then I suggest sending it back. IF you do not have warranty and feeling adventurous, you can attempt to take the TV apart and fix it yourself.

Look for a loose connector, because most likely when you hit the side of the TV, you make a connector lodge itself back into place correctly, bringing back the picture, but I do advise against this and get it sent back via warranty.

Toshiba 27af45 repeatedly turns itself off. Sometimes (usually) every few minutes, other times will stay on for hours. Works perfectly otherwise.

The fact that the television stays on for hours and other times turns in five minutes shows that your problem is intermitent .A defective component in the power supply is probaly causing the B plus voltage to go up.The TV can also have a dry joint which looks more likley i am curtain if you gave the TV a firm tap to the side when it come off it would come on back. Try it .

Hi,
Please reply couple of questions about TV to guess what could be wrong.

1- How many times standby light blinks, there would be interval of 3 seconds in blinks so count pause to pause.

2- Please intimate exact model of TV, written on sticker pasted at back of TV. That will help me to check its schematics.

Hit " add a comment" button to reply.
Thanks.

Sound goes off after 5 minutes

hi there, yes it can be fixed, hitting the unit means that you have a cold solder on the board. the sound is in the amplifier section, check some connection at the speakers and amplifier, a cleanning and a reheat of cold solder to the baord is required. ty
