You need to have the lamp/bulb replaced. It's a sign it's going out.

Permanent blue haze on screen; looks like

The fact that you continue to have sound while the picture disappears points to one of three potential issues.

Issue 1: the LCD Panel.

Issue 2: The Inverter Power Boards (though these tend to cause power/shutdown/no video at startup than video distortion)

Issue 3: the Time Control Board - a small board at the top of the LCD panel on the back that relays data to the rest of the screen.

Any one of these three repairs, you should call Sony if the unit is outside of manufacturer's warranty. They are expensive to perform, and the parts are not cheap. Hopefully you have an extended warranty to help with the issue.

Blue Haze in middle of screen progressively getting larger

This one is easy. WHen this happened to me, I simply called GE extended warranty service up and bought an extended warranty. I waited 30 days and called them up with my problem. A repair man showed up a few days later with the 1200 dollar light engine and installed it and left. Then I called GE up and cancelled the warranty. Total cost?: 48 bucks

I had the same problem, I had to send it back to Philips to get a $900 part replaced. Thankfully I had the warranty with it.

Blue haze on screen

Afraid not, that TV doesn't have CRT's. You can not degauss it. The speaker should not have had any affect on it either again because it does not have CRT's (picture tubes). This is a bad optical engine and will be expensive to repair. At most shops probably $600-700 with part and labor. It is very common on that model. Sorry for the bad news.

Blue haze on hitachi 51" tv

I finally emailed Hitachi about the blue haze and since my televison is only 16 months old they agreed to pay for the part (they didn't say what part) and I will have to pay the service charge. The repairman is coming out on 2 Apr 08. I will post results after that.
