As long as they are the exact same size then they are compatible.

When I turn on my Compaq Presario 5000, I get a message on the first screen that says 1801-Microcode Error. And something about needing a new bios? Please help me.

The motherboard of the pc has a corrupted BIOS chip - this isn't fixable, you would need to replace the motherboard who died of old age.
Since this is an extremely old pc there are no replacement or compatible boards left on sale. Sorry, time for a new pc.

Battery died E machine T2984. how replace

Disconnect all the cables from the computer,
and take the computer to any computer-store.

They will remove the side-panel, identify the battery, and sell you a replacement battery that will be compatible.

If you ask "nicely", they will remove the old battery, and install the new one -- it will take 15 seconds!!!

Probably, having more RAM would make VMWARE run faster.

Check the manufacturer's web-site -- surely, they have a version which *DOES* work as a "native" application under Windows XP and Windows VIsta and Windows 7, i.e., no need for "compatibility settings".

My screen stays black when you turn it on. model HSTNN-C17C which is located under the battery. Presario V5000

This isn't a desktop PC by the way. Do any of the lights come on? If not, try to run the laptop from the AC power. If the lights come on but no display, then your backlight or inverter on the LCD panel for your V5000 might be bad.

Hard drive has been wiped trying to re boot from windows xp cd. changed battery on mother board. getting alert low battery voltage and pc will not re boot. asking re boot trying pressing F1

It sounds like you either got a bad battery or one that is not compatible with your motherboard. Try replacing with a new battery that is compatible with your mb & see if this corrects the error. If you just bought the other battery you are using you should be able to get a refund or store credit towards the new one. Also make sure all the cables are properly seated as one may have come lose during original replacement. Hope this helps.
